Another Polaris Towed Out...

This reminds me of that Honda commercial I have seen on TV.
Customer - Is this a good car?
Salesman - It has a great warranty!
Customer - Yea, but is it a good car?
Salesman - Does it matter if it is a good car? It has a great warranty!

LMAO

UPDATE

Dealer called:

Excessive tolerance led to piston skirt failure
Piston skirt failure led to cylinder skirt failure
Debris from above caused crank to lock solid

Awaiting new short block from Polaris Industries...

Here is to hoping PII takes care of a customer who has purchased his fair share of sleds over the past several years:frusty:

Very sorry about your troubles. No doubt polaris will replace your engine, but like you said, what about all the trouble the engine grenading caused? They will not compensate you for that at all. Will you ever really trust that sled again? Everytime you drop into some valley are you going to be enjoying the new horizons and the fresh untouched snow or are you going to be thinking "if this thing calves how am I going to get it out of here?" I'm not picking on you in particular, please don't take it that way, every guy riding a polaris 800 cfi is in the same situation. Polaris has burned me to many times in the past, I will not be their bi#ch again. Build a real engine polaris and then prove it on the snow before you start screwing the consumer again. MAYBE then I'll buy another one.

Absolutely unbelievable!! Why can't they get that fixed :face-icon-small-sho

Oh, and I swear if I can throw around the 2013 XM that we'll have with us this weekend like I can the Pro then I will have a 2012 Pro with a fresh engine for sale in no time.

Jay Mentaberry of Alpine, Wyoming jumped ship from the Polaris Pro to the Skidoo XM. Despite all of his friends protests and heckling, he is standing tall and says that it handles just as well as the Pro and the engine is more powerful. :face-icon-small-sho

This weekend I will ride the 2013 and hope to GOD that the driveshaft doesn't go...and lead to another difficult drag out.

Sorry about the Pro; been there, done that.
Let us know on the XM. :) I'm lookin for something different to consider now too.. But I sure do like the Pro chassis handling, so it needs to feel very very similar to it.

I also blew my 11 pro for the second time in 2,400 miles. This time I will be putting RK TEK pistons and cheater head in her. Polaris pistons are horribly sloppy and I can not put another set in. I'll have it up and running this weekend and we will see the difference between them. Cheers

my 11 pro just got new cylinder covered under warranty. cracked cylinder skirt on mag side intake side of cylinder. luckily i caught it b4 it took out my entire motor. after hearing number of sleds go down and getting a phone call from a good buddy who is a polaris dealer telling me that he just did 3 pros that week (2-2011's 1200 miles, 1800 miles and a 2012 with 1400 miles) all with cracked cylinder skirts i decieded that i wanted mine looked at. low be hold it was cracked

new cylinder and now installing rk teks drop in pistons in hopes i wont have to tear this sled apart again.

The "snowbunjie" approach was tried with failure as well...the hill we are attempting to go up is alot steeper than the go pro makes it seem...nothing was going to tow this sled out other than a groomer or something like that.

8 guys got it out though:)

With the Polaris being soooooo light, shouldn't one guy have been able to pick up the sled and pack it out?:face-icon-small-hap Sorry guys, cheap shots. I'll get outa here before I get a hit put out on me:sorry:

The real question is, are the 2013 800s going to hold together after the cylinder upgrades this year? Time will tell.

NO, the real question is when is Polaris going to get fed up enough with all the warranty claims (i.e. when is it going to hurt their bottom line enough) coming in to actually DESIGN an engine that won't lose skirts like the Pi Beta Phi's did in college...

If anyone's wife was a Pi Beta Phi in college I sincerely apologize for all the nasty things I did with her back then:face-icon-small-blu

I installed a PA head on a 12 pro last night with 200 miles on the 2nd engine he made it 1200 miles on the first one . He asked me to turn up his oilier I had to laugh when I felt the piston slop I know they are at a taper but if you hold it just right you can feel the bottom of the piston slop around . I said why turn it up it is not going to fix the crappy piston fit .
I am into a little over $1500 to replace or fix parts on my 11 Assault to try and make it reliable . That's $1500 I should be spending on sledding trips and updating my ridding gear.
Sorry for your misfortune it is too bad the engine you are getting is living on borrowed time also . It is pretty depressing getting on the pro ride site and hearing of all the same problems since 08 .
I heard the CEO's of Polaris and OBAMA are vacationing in Hawaii on are dime again .

There are other areas where this engine can fail too. That's why people turn the oiler up. I guess we should all just run them at the stock 70:1 now since the skirts will colapse and take the engine out before a crank or rod bearing failure? I'll run mine at 38:1 and feel better about my bottom end.
