another in utah

Hadn't heard about this one. Any of the local UT guys know any more details about this? I don't see a report on UAC website.

It sucks to call these guys out, but how stupid can you be? The slope to the immediate right slid and they don't think the the slope that they were hitting won't do the same thing. His words, "stupid and invincible."

I wouldn't feel bad calling him out. I wonder if the news report was correct in the end when it stated he wasn't wearing a beacon? I would love to see an official report on this to see how he was located. Another thing I was baffled by was the people standing there while the others were digging. Even in the drills I have done, everyone is frantically digging with their shovels, or has a shovel in hand ready to dig in case someone becomes exhausted. Really lucky.

First, I am glad that he got out-- its one for the record books.

That is a pretty good for TV report. Looking at the video, its amazing how many runs had been made on that hill before it let loose--straight up, across, turns, and all it didn't let go for a long time. That is scary!

But still, have to say:
Good comment by Apex Jeff about the other electronics. I guess if you leave your beacon at home, your friends do not affect the search with the video cam.

What's scary is;

1: The fact that the avy conditions are well known to be dangerous this year. It's all over the news, so you have to be a complete moron to not know how dangerous it is.
2: The guy is knowingly riding in these conditions without his beacon. Really?
3: The slope the right is identical and has already slid. HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4: This whole group insists on climbing with all of the above. Groups need to communicate what is going to be an acceptable risk for each area encountered and not be afraid to tell your buddies if they are being stupid.

It is a miracle that this avy has a positive outcome. This year, all it takes is one bad decision to get into trouble and this group makes at least 4 mistakes!!!! WOW!

This weekend we didn't see any fresh slides, but that doesn't mean that it's safe. To the contrary, the avy forcasts have been stating that any avys that are triggered will tend to step down and be very large and destructive.

Hey bro Seee if you can highmark that avy!:rant:

Scary that a whole group appearntly thinks its a good idea to ride next to other slides too.
