Another coolant question

OK so still trying to figure out if i have a leak or whats up...

SO a couple of questions
1. are all coolant lines black rubber or are there a couple of clear lines..
2. There is a line that comes down beside the clutches and the frame its clear with a filter it looks like...is this a oil line??
3. I think i see a couple of drops when i look in behind the primary on the belly pan...any lines run up that way??

1. Yes all lines are black.
2. If it is about 1/2 in. diameter, thats one of the oil pump lines.
3. I'd have to look at my sled again.

ok so got tired of messing around so pulle the gas tank and cowling

found coolant sitting on the water pump in between the two hoses, so now the question is...where do we think this is coming from?? the top line at the clamp??

also what size is this line can i get one from an autoparts store to replace it or are they custom because of the bend??

would it be better to put a hose clamp on this instead of the clamp thats there?

that hose is a 5/8 hose. it has a 90 in it i am sure you can take it off and go to a parts store and get one that will work. and yes it is better to use hose clamps that the stupid spring ones they use. you will get a better seal.

one thing to remember the engine lays back so any coolant that leaks on top of the head can run back and sit there too. also head o rings may cause it. just look for traces of coolant from the top down.

good luck

I had cleaned out any trace of coolant i could see in the front, that had fallen between the two cylinders and didnt notice any when i got back in there but the level had gone down in the jug. Now i didnt get a good look at the water pump before until now since i had to take the tank and seat off. So i figure since i am in there now that i would try this hose and then put it all back together and see what she does.

If it drops again then back to the drawing board.

As for a replacement hose, so i will have to try and find one this size with a 90 bend in it eh....will this be hard?

I am sure you got the same thing going on as me, that is where the coolant was sitting on mine, the hose closer to the motor, does it look wet around the clamp? I wil let you know what my deal is once the dealer gets back to me.

cant tell for sure if its wet or not...but looks like a small puddle sitting on top of the water pump.

as for a new hose. Went to a hose store today they carried 5/8 heater hose which looks the same however there are none with a 90 on them. So my next thought would be to just keep the 90 at the top and join the old hose with a piece of the new hose....any thoughts? The only 5/8 connector i could fins is brass isntead of plastic would this work?

i wouldn't do that. the more connections the more chances of leaks. i would just put normal hose clamps on both ends of that hose and see what you get.

ok ya and i just called an auto store and they have a metal coil that goes around the rubber hose and then you can place a 90 in the hose....so maybe i grab that and place a new hose in there...also thinking i might replace the top end o-rings while i have the system drained and add the 10mm washers in there aswell. Is there any more specific info on these washers? other then going to the dealer

here is the link to the flex product for the line http://www.gates-unicoil.com/gallery_eng.cfm

did it leave your cylinder head with a white substance on it?

also does anyone know if there is a vent hole on the waterpump like on a car??? Have herd that if the seal or bearing is going bad that it can cause coolant to leak out the vent hole on car waterpumps...just wondering if it is the same on a sled and if so where the vent hole might be?

My coolant was found sitting inbetween the two hoses and then in the belly pan...the stuff between the hoses looks like it might have dried up abit there..

I would say to just start simple and try some real hose clamps... if it still leaks then you can do a process of elimination and get more and more into it if you have to.

The temp sensor had what looked like corrosion.... it would only leak when it was running.... I wiggled it a bit oneday and then saw it leaking more as I wiggled it...

The other leak I had was on the water pump cover... the bolts had loosened and was leaking from the water pump cover (black plastic cover on the backside).... two seperate situations... Wish I would of tried tightening those damn water pump cover bolts before we tore into it....

I'd check those two things before getting to crazy....

Good luck

:beer;

all good thoughts....i have found the o rings so will do them and the washers and put it all back together. Also will try to tighten the water pump abit while i have it semi-exposed.

side note for anyone looking to replace the small hose coming off the engine head, well i called the dealer no stock and like 45 bucks. Went to a napa store with pipe in hand. Found a 5/8 heater hose with a 90 on it just have to trim the length of it abit and it was only 15

have you bled the cooling system lately? I took mine to the dealer and they told me the coolant sitting there was from bleeding the system, runs under the head to the back of the motor and drips down on to the water pump... turns out my only leak was one of the coolant lines running to the throttle bodies, only charged me 30 bucks for all tests and to repair. Just a thought, hope you get it figured out.
