Another avalanche in Utah

I cant believe it. Knowledge or not, use COMMON SENSE! This scares me so much to be a 14 yo and I really dont want to die in the dawn of life.
Stay of the slopes until it sets up. Why not take a nice trail ride with the family and good friends and make memories, not tragedys. PLEASE!

Jay

Screw the trails there are endless powder meadows in that area. I put 126 miles on in the last three days and never touched a hill. I hope the best for him and his family.
The word is out but we all need to use some common sense.

Its all bad, all across N America. The two in Grand Lake. As I read the details,

Kid got stuck, friend went up to help, Dad went up also to help and triggered the slid. Taking his friend and son..........

Ive never been but Ive seen the videos of the gorgeous meadows that seem to go for miles...........Play there...........I think it would be more fun then dying or watching your friends die.....

That poor family.........prayers and love..........

That is a horrific thought to have to live with:brokenheart:

It's just not worth it. RIP

Didn't know it was that kind of terrain.
But on another note, dealing with the steep stuff, use your head and go to the "meadows" and/or trails. :face-icon-small-sad

Holy God! My deepest regrets. The only thing that matters at this moment is praying for the victim, the family and the friends of the young man.

condolenses to the family.....15 is way to young. where is the common sense at these days

Guys, Just got word that the victim was a family member. My aunts sister-in-laws son.
Hayden Ellingsford.
Their family races in the RMSHA circuit that I'm just getting into. I would've raced with him in the Juniors class this year. Its terribly sad. WAY to young.

I hope that everybody takes this into perspective and stays OFF the hills.

Man that is so sad. :( Prayers go out to the family.

When are we going to tell ALL of our riding buddies to STAY OFF THE HILLS!! and STAY OUT FROM UNDER THE HILLS TOO!!!! It is just so dangerous this year. Anybody who reads this or saw this on the news needs to tell everyone he or she knows thats rides, skis, boards or whatever. Too many people have been killed this season already. Who cares if they already know, it needs to be pounded into peoples heads this year. Tell your local dealer to tell everyone they come in contact with about the danger.

This one hit home to me more so then the others. He is my cousin, (technically 2nd cousin). He has been riding in this area since he was able to walk pretty much. One thing that is very very surprising was he wasnt wearing a beacon. Although i dont know to much of the details other then what was in the articles. Here is the one that was in the salt lake tribune. I would also like to point out some of the comments on this article. Some are pretty silly. http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_11332354

Wow.........Thoughts and prayers. Those guys are pretty well known on the hillclimb circuit. Would have been sweet to see him do as well as his bros. :(

why anyone would be near superbowl right now is mind boggling..... :(

110% agreed. 2,000,000 acres to ride in the Uintas... 1/2 of them harmless. this accident is like all the others. multiple mistakes that all add up to work against the victim. It's very sad. my thoughts to this young man's family in this difficult time.

people forget that a probe, shovel and beacon ... all great tools but the number one way to survive and avy is to not be in it. STAY OFF THE HILLS for now. And this year's number one new HUGE lesson.... STAY OUT FROM UNDER THEM TOO.

Here is the scoop on the avalanche. The group of riders were at the bottom of a hill right in the slide path. No one had climbed the hill and there wasn't a track on the hill. It was a freak accident. EVERYONE in the group again was sitting at the bottom of the hill. It broke while they were sitting there and the 15 year old just happened to be facing the wrong way. Everyone fired up their sleds and got away but he didn't.

It is a sad story but you don't have to be climbing or whatever to be caught. They shouldn't have gone without beacons. No one should be up there without them, at anytime, not just right now. Meadows look better and better each day. Everyone ride safe and educate as many as people as you can about the danger.
