Another accident

He was a good dude I knew him personally really a tragic course of events.

condolence to the family. This sucks. But he was evidently riding alone according to the video. It why is so important to partner up in the group look out for each other on any slopes small or large. It’s what happens when everyone scatters with no plan when leaving the truck.

That is true (Dan Davidoff as an example). However, in this case, I doubt that it would have mattered. I suspect that the collision with the tree is what killed him which is often the case. Also, I don't know if the group was "scattered". It is not practical to expect everyone to be in view of each other ALL THE TIME. You cab be riding a couple hundred yards apart and not see one another.

These subjects are allways hard because we don't want to speculate about people we did not know and there are others who loved them that could be offended by a statement that might insult them. I have been involved with several whitewater fatalities and it's allways easy to understand aftwr it's over but it's allways to late to change the outcome. As a backcountry skier I've done this training and iam doing it again this month. It's almost always the same. Steep slopes. This slope was 36° -40° . Those are the ones that go. Sucks cause they are the fun ones but it's how it is. You hear like a broken record , " allways cross steep slopes one at a time in view of your party who is safely out of the way of a potential slide. This would be an example when it may have saved a life. May not have but they were not able to dig up the rider for an estimated 15-20 minutes. The terain trap was not that bad but you just have to think about what's under you when it's steep too. We lost a employee at work last year skiing and his death was caused by trauma by trees during the slide so this could be as well but 15 minutes and it's over no matter what in a full burial. Sucks cause iam sure they'd done it before , been there before, done it a hundred times ect... but when it goes bad it's fast. The flip side is never skiing those lines you see because they are so dangerous which is a debate as to not living life to its fullest. Lots of fun to be had in the high teens to mid 20° marks too though. Condolences and prayers for the family and friends and a sober reminder of the risks and risk management of backcountry snowmobiling and skiing.
