Andy and Opie Taylor

I find myself "escaping reality" by watching TV Land re-runs of The Andy Griffith show and wishing Andy Taylor could run the country (not sure about Griffith's politics so let's use a mythical figure).

Outside of some misguided social program plugging and a lot of co-dependent behavior , he tackles spanking of children (a pro-spanking position), taking responsibility for your actions, giving to charity (without BO's AmeriCorps help!), being a good citizen, having ethics and morals. I love how he always listens to Opie and gives him gentle correction, admits when he's wrong, carefully handles ruffled feathers, outsmarts the crooks, shows compassion where needed, effectively problem-solves and everyone is happy. They shamelessly attend church, sing in the choir, Opie prays by his bedside at night. Too bad producers decided TV needed to be more "real life" instead of setting an example and started considering good morals "propaganda."

I wonder what The Andy Griffith Show in 2009 would look like?

Sigh...

Sigh...

Well...

Andy would still be a good guy, but would lose his job because the lawyers kept getting the criminals off since they were "decieved"

Barney would be a cross dresser by night

Opie would be wearing girl pants, smoking dope, have a ring in his eyebrow and "feels like omg so stressed when my dad like talks to me"

The barbershop would be a front for a giant meth lab in the back

The fishing hole would be closed because a rare endangered goldfish was found - plus all the land around the pond would be bought up with million dollar homes so you couldn't fish it anyways.

Family problems would end in screaming matches and slamming doors

Pretty much what america is coming to. Its a sad disaster happening right before us.

GAACK! I could only get through 1.5 minutes of it. I'm not surprised. That's why I had the disclaimer "not sure about Griffith's politics so let's use a mythical figure."

Moto: That was hilarious!

That reminds me of the conversation I had with the young editor of the Pravda on the Platte (Casper Star Tribune) when they endorsed BHO before the election, much more spirited though. I had quit the paper and he tried very hard to talk me out of it. I am going to call him sometime and see how hope and change is doing for him. For one thing, he said well I graduated from the University of Wyoming and I said well you sure didn't learn much about the people of Wyoming did you.
