I find myself "escaping reality" by watching TV Land re-runs of The Andy Griffith show and wishing Andy Taylor could run the country (not sure about Griffith's politics so let's use a mythical figure).
Outside of some misguided social program plugging and a lot of co-dependent behavior
, he tackles spanking of children (a pro-spanking position), taking responsibility for your actions, giving to charity (without BO's AmeriCorps help!), being a good citizen, having ethics and morals. I love how he always listens to Opie and gives him gentle correction, admits when he's wrong, carefully handles ruffled feathers, outsmarts the crooks, shows compassion where needed, effectively problem-solves and everyone is happy. They shamelessly attend church, sing in the choir, Opie prays by his bedside at night. Too bad producers decided TV needed to be more "real life" instead of setting an example and started considering good morals "propaganda."
I wonder what The Andy Griffith Show in 2009 would look like?
Sigh...
