That's right. Free money for safety education from the Anchorage Snowmobile Club.
Yes, I'm hawking the club, BUT part of our mission statement is promoting winter sports safety.
We have established a "Safety Education Scholarship" program that reimburses any member in good standing up to $250 per year (every year) for eligible classes. The rules are simple:
1) Find a safety class that appeals to you that also has some reasonable application to snowmobiling--First Aid/CPR, Wilderness Medicine/Survival, and of course Avy training at any level.
2) Clear that class through any club officer or board member
3) Take the class and present your proof of completion
4) Get reimbursed any amount up to the $250 limit (if you take a $75 First Aid class we'll give you (up to) $75, but you still have another $175 to apply to other classes)
In the case of the 3 day Level 1 Avy class from the AK Avalanche School...the class is $345. If you use the full "scholarship" your cost is $95.
If you take the 1 day Snowmachiner's course at $155 you still have $95 left over to apply to some other class like First Aid/CPR.
Membership is $25/single or $35/family per year.
We may be mostly fat guys in our 40's and 50's but we ride the mountains too, and we want more, younger members. We want zero avy fatalities. We are not above bribery. Joining the club=free money for classes you know you were going to take anyway.
