Am I missing something on the BDX Deflection Adjuster?

I've run this thing for over 3 years now and love it, but why when you go to remove a belt and you have to crank it in does it just shred aluminum everywhere? Why don't they put a teflon washer or something between them? Am I missing something?

Aaron

The AMP one does the same thing. I put a little moly grease on mine and it works much better now.

All I do is take the bolt out, flip over the end cap so it's on backwards then put the bolt back in. When you tighten the bolt it pushes the sheaves apart.

No special tools needed. I read about that little trick here on Snowest!

You only need hand power to change the belt as stated above, using the adjuster would take forever and gouge the aluminum.....just do it by hand.

Do you guys run very stiff springs? I can do that with someone else, but not by myself.

I agree, if your using a cat orange or goodwin dark blue they can be a bit stiff. I use the BD belt removal tool, it works great. Effortless to open your sheeves with that tool.

I use a rubber strap wrench. You wrap it around the outer part of the helix and crank it with the brake on. Works great, haven't seen an easier way.

Anyone still use this method with a torsional secondary? i'm running the cutler kit with the orange spring. Seems much stiffer than stock.

if your helix is an enclosed the strap method will work, otherwise just turn the inner half of the secondary clockwise and then pull up on the belt, forcing it into the secondary on the bottom and then remove. Either way is easy.

Sorry for the ignorance but can you guys tell me how the BDX adjuster is installed and how it works. I have one but with no instuctions. I was going to install it later this week but would like to know details for sure.

Thanks in advance.

Very simple. Pull the bolt out of your secondary with a 9/16" socket. Along with it will come a coupler with a o-ring and shim washers on it. Stick it in a drawer. You won't need them anymore. Now thread the new part in Counter-clockwise (left hand threads) until you get the belt defection you want and tighten the new bolt they give you with the allen wrench they give you. Adjust the belt deflection so your sled track barely turns when hung from the rafters or your belt squeals a little or sled creeps just a hair if sitting on the ground. That will put you where you need to be. Whenever you need to adjust it, just be sure to loosen the center bolt you put in a little, adjust it and retighten. Keep the allen wrench on board. Good luck!
