Alyeska hillclimb

?- What is the criteria for the improved class vs. modified, looking at the Moto-Mushers site didn't see a criteria. Also any idea on what the Aly Hillclimb course is like/set-up. thanks

improv/mod

improve class is stock chassis with mod engine, ie pipes porting reeds head mod. Mod is all goes. All you need is snow flap to the ground, teather switch, clutch guard for improve and mod class. personal safety you need helmet goggles, chest protector, and shin guards.

Improved Mod- stock chassis with a built motor. Most have stock appearing head(stock cover). You can run any ski, shock, track, and I do believe any clutch.

Mod- Run whatever

Both classes require long snowflap, must touch snow with rider on the sled. Need to have .090 aluminum or 6" belting surrounding the entire clutch. You also must have
.090 aluminum running down the side just below the clutch bolts. All sleds need a tether and allriders need a chest protector and shin/knee guards.

Never entered a hillclimb, so I've got a few dumb questions:

1) Is there a stock class? what are the rules? I've got a mechanically stock sled with new light hood, no guage, no light.

2) Anybody know where on the mountain the climb is held?

3) I ride a 4 stroke yami (let the jokes roll), key start only, no tether. How would one set up a tether for a rig like that?

thanks for any tips!

Doug-

I called and talked to Mel, the contact person with AMMC regarding the hillclimb. He said flap didn't matter on the hillclimb, since you're one at time. It's required on the 'cross events. Also, said the clutch was fine. Said the only required stuff was the tether and the tek-vest. No knee pads either.

Since this is the first time for me, I just don't want to show up and be getting different stories. I took the plastic guard off my clutch side, and I'm not going to be fabbing up an aluminum cover or buying a new cover for the ride - too much pain and/or $$$

Thanks for calling. That will make it easier for people to race. I follow the ISSR rules that the RMSHA curcuit uses in the lower 48. The Alyeska climbs have always been easy going with the tech. See ya at the races.

There are stock classes, 600,700,800,1000, there might be a 900 class as well. You might be able to run stock, not sure because of the light weight hood. That usaully puts you in the mod class. Call them and check. Also ask them about a tether or call the dealer to see if they even make one foe yammys.

I ended up calling Mel, too. He did some research for me and called right back.
-Turns out you can run a 3-cyl 4-stroke up to 1050cc in the 600 class:D (same as Arctic Man rules).

-They'll let me run in the stock class with the hood mod, since I'm mechanically stock.

-You've got to have a tether, no exceptions.

-The run will be to the left of Tanaka if you're looking uphill, and it will have a few gates, not a straight shot.

How are they categorizing the 4 strokes?? Am I going to have to compete against Tubro'd yammies in an 800 mod class? But in the stock class, it would seem unfair to the 4 strokes to compete against 1000 cc 2 smokers.
