Aluminum, plastic or Polycard?

Getting ready for the trip out west this spring. What type shovel do you recommend in the back pack.
Aluminum sounds heavy, plastic/poly sounds breakable.

Are the saws in the handle worth the two cents or are they disposable?

You won't shovel much packed snow (never mind avy snow) with a plastic or polycarbonate shovel. Got beacon?

Definitely aluminum. And be sure to get a large enough blade that you can actually move snow with.

Not yet, we will before we go.
Have the beacon narrowed down to a BCA Tracker DTS or SOS SB

And we are signed up for a "ave" class so we know how to use them too.
Thanks for the help

I bought the Voile shovel/saw setup last year and love it. The paint on the blade keeps any snow from sticking.

The handle telescopes, and the blade is stored inside the handle. All told, the shovel only weighs a couple of pounds I believe.
