Aluminum bars and heating elements??

Tried searching for this subject, didn't find anything.

I just put a set of wider, aluminum bars on my 08 D7. Is there anything special I need to do with the heating elements to make sure my grip heaters function correctly? Also wondering if anybody has tried grips other than the stock polaris grips? I'd like to run a wider grip as well, probably one from the mountain bike industry. Anybody have experience with this?

Wrap your bar in electrical tape under the heating element and grip. Not much just enough so the heat doesn't soak into the bar only. I do em just like you would a baseball bat. One layer only seems to be a nice balance so you still get grip hold and heat. Also note it's a good idea to make sure that no wire is exposed directly to metal as that causes considerable damage to your steering hoop bushings over time.

My all time favorite grips are ODI which you can get from any WPS dealer
P#59-8892 (black) $19.95 a pair. They come long and you can trim the inside to fit your setup.

Instructions: In the shop minimum of 70*...rig up your tape, element, and bar setup.....protect the sled with paper...spray a light coat of black rattle can spray paint on the bar...spray a medium amount into the (preheat the grip with a heat gun to soften) ODI grip. Immediately work the grip into place by hand. We also use compressed air to balloon up the grip and it shoots right on. (careful as this can also spray paint all over the place) You get about 10 seconds before the paint has a chemical reaction with the rubber and becomes fixed. Let it all sit and harden 24hrs. In the event that you get some grip twist another trick is to wrap the grip with three our four lines of mechanics wire.
