Alternative to 800 Pro engine issues... Mod a 600?

I rented a 2013 600 Pro 155 and loved it, but it did seem a bit lacking on power and I am hesitant to buy an 800 with all of the engine issues.

Has anyone done any mild mods to a 12' or 13' Pro 600? I don't really want to spend thousands on a Carl's 660 kit, for that price I could just fix an 800 after it blew up.

I don't think its too much to ask to get 4,000 miles out of a $10,000 sled and that is what I'm after. (I know lots of flatlanders and trail riders get 5,000 plus miles but that is not the kind of riding that I do).

Any input is appreciated.

There are a few "fix" kits on the snow for the 800, not enough to draw a conclusion for durability like the 660 Carl's kit. As with any modifications, your warranty is toast. I personally went with the 600 and will ride it until warranty is up, then install a 660 kit - they have an awesome track record for performance & durability. Won't have the power or torque of the 800 mind you, but sure will be fun to ride... wasn't long ago that a 660 was an 800 killer.

My Carl's 660 puts a grin on my face all day long. I've already started to warn my wife that when this sled gets retired I'm likely going to do it again.

Nobody is gonna believe this **** but my 600 sticks right with stock 800s and sometimes beats them in short drag races(500-600 feet). Its got a par 12.5 head and thats it, stock clutching even. Obviously it doesnt hang in the steep and deep but it is surprising what it will do, especially to the guys on the disposable 800's ;)

If you want to mod anyways, why not go with the 800 and get it one of the longrod options discussed at length in this forum?

Then you get improved reliability, performance, and longevity. I believe the Indy Dan LR motor even comes with warranty IIRC.

That would seem the logical way to go. If you think the 800 is lacking in power, you will be chasing your tail with the 600 I believe.

For what its worth.....I own a 2013 Pro 163 800. It is a great sled with no issues.
However recently I rode a 2013 Pro 155 600 for a day and enjoyed. It handled great, rode great, side hilled great, and overall was a great running machine. It did everything I asked of it and then some. I did notice a power differance but ride abilty can overcome power most of the time. After riding it all day I was not as worn out as I am with my 800. I would not hestiate to buy a 600 for the next sled I buy.

I agree 100%. I own a rental company and ride both. The 600 in many cases is right there with an 8. In some cases better. The 6 holds it r's much better at elevation. If an 800 is running 7900 as they often do and a 600 is running 8200 as they often do, it is almost dead even. They are snappier, kinda like riding a 125 two stroke dirt bike. My favorite thing is riding a 600 with a group of 800's. Soon people realize the rider may have something to do with it. Also as the person who started this sled said the 800 won't get 4000 miles, that is not correct. Although we would like to see more longevity. 4000 miles is realistic. The new motor is leaps and bounds better than the Dragon 800's. 600's and 800's, I like them both. I'm never upset when my 800's are rented out and all I have to ride is a 600.

I'm glad this discussion was brought up. I have thought long and hard about getting a 600 for my next sled and dropping a Carls 685 in it. But I do love torque...

i don't think the 685 is an option anymore? only the 660 for the injected sleds i believe. with that said, the 660 i had in an edge sled is still one of my favorite motors, hands down, i've ever had. but, my 13 800 definitely has more power, no question. and it is common for the 600s to out run an 800 in a short, flat drags. but that is not really why we buy the sleds. the 8 will out perform a 6 when it gets serious. but damn, if that 660 isn't a kick in the *** and the sled i came real close to owning over the 800. main reason i didn't was cost.

They detuned the 600 pro for some reason , it's not what the mags claimed , emmissions ?? That leaves room for untapped Hp mods with the reliability , 7 Hp out of a pipe for starters , Their also the only ones to offer a Mtn sled in a 155 x 2 , common sense went out the window for sales , step back to the 144 and rip some 8s'

My 12 600 rmk 144 will be rolling over 2000 miles by end of this season. I am making plans already for a tear down and doing up the motor with a 660 Carl's over the summer. The sled has been down right awesome for two seasons but I am now off warranty and want to get some more jam out of it for next season. I am really looking forward to it.

What about Turbo'ing a 600?

I have a 13 Pro Turbo 155 BD and thought about doing another turbo on a 600 for reliability reasons but unsure its even worth it?

Agree, why not just get a long rod motor from Indy Dan with a 3 year warranty. Or just get the fix kit from MTNT for just over $500.

Ski doo offers the 600 in a 154 also.
