Alright........lets talk belts again for a moment

Need to pick up a new belt or 2 depending on the price.

Looking at the Dayco HPX belt.........you always hear either good or bad!
at $50 it is very appealing. Currently running a Gates Xtreme on it now with about 300 miles on it and not really any complaints so far.

Skidoo changed their belts from 166 to 383. They have terrible reports from noteworthy people in the sport. So I have decided to maybe steer away from the 383. The alternatives 288 and 377 are both $150 belts that I feel is just completely assanine for a belt.

Anyway any thoughts out there or experience with Dayco? In the end I think for $50 I will end up trying it anyway, just looking for feedback.:face-icon-small-hap

I would run nothing but the -288. It should last you all season or longer. MUCH cheaper in the long run than the aftermarket belts.

The after market belts I have tried I lost 2-3 hundred rpm. To me that is a loss of power. Want a good mod get a good belt!;)

If you run a softer belt like 803 as an example...normal to see upon direct belt change (after break in period) on a full throttle run around 200 rpms loss.

You can reduce the flyweight 1/2 gram for start.
You can raise the clicker up one number
You can take the final force of the primary spring and raise it say going from xxx/320 to a xxx/350 as an example.

In the end the belt will last the longest when you can calibrate so that the rpms will be at rated-rpms upon full throttle and/or recover to rated rpms.

Thanks Joey- I posted this up after we had our discussion yesterday. I appreciate your input. At the end of the day, it is just that. Different setups are going to respond differently. At the end of the day I hope to find an amenable setup for me.

I plan to drop in my xxx/350 spring when I run the HPX belt and see what I get. I will keep at it with my Gates belt too. At the end of the day if I can find a setup that performs with either of these 2 belts at $40-50 bucks per belt and the belts perform and last, that is my goal. So test and tune till I get one of these belts to go 500+.

Wish me luck:rolleyes:

The problem I've seen too many times with those belts is how they literally EXPLODE with zero warning. Have seen a couple cranks lost due to this and heard of others as well as clutch shields, footwells, side panels etc....blown off or damaged. Just buy 1 good Doo belt, set the clutching up correctly for that belt and ride that same belt long enough to get your $$'s worth.....trust me, it will be alot less $$ and problems in the long run. :beer;

Brew you may be right.........I guess I may just have to learn this one the hard way and you can say I told ya so.......

I already have the Gates Extreme belt on there with ~300 miles on it and has been good. I just got a Dayco HPX off ebay for $35 bucks. I may just keep that as a spare and when the Gates gives it up I may be able to coin up by then on an expensive doo belt. Till then for the cost to me.......I'll experiment a little bit.:face-icon-small-hap

Been my experience too. Only one i haven't tried is the XS 803. Hard to beat a good doo belt. They had a run of bad ones. But the seem better now. Didn't have any issues on the Rev with a belt i put on last year. Previous year was a different story. Had 2 bad ones in a row. Then didnt have anymore issues after that.........same setup.
