So I bought this 2000 4Runner about a month back. Not everyone's dream vehicle, but I've always had a "thing" for 4Runner's of that vintage, for whatever reason. So when one came across my radar....40K original miles, one owner, no accidents, all options, black, last year you could get a 5spd manual, etc...had to have it.

Spent a few weeks of late nights after work detailing it...full paint correction, polish, interior shampoo, took the roof rack apart to repaint, and replaced some trim, bought all new chrome bumpers (old ones had tarnished where they were dinged/scraped), new floor mats, new stereo, service, etc, etc. After a lot of scrounging for parts and sweating my arse off in 90 degree heat, It turned out REALLY REALLY nice....like literally a brand new 2000 4Runner. So I was pretty pleased with myself and the results.

So the FIRST DAY I turn the thing over to the wife and go back to driving my commuter sh!tbox to work....she parks too close to a concrete barrier and dents/scrapes the brand new OEM chrome bumper that I searched all over God's green earth for a good deal on, and way too long f'ing with 15 year old rusty bolts to install. I know it's just a car, and not even one of huge value.....but what a piss off!! lol

LOL that's the crappy thing....I kinda wish she would have really crunched the thing, then replacing it would be a no brainer. It's small enough that I'll either have to get over it...or just blow $$$ replacing a week old 95% good bumper.

strap on some boat dock bumpers.LOL
Guess I should have left the old one's on a bit longer for "training bumpers" lol

She's a really good driver in general too....I'm just super OCD with my vehicles. Worked on a car lot for too many years and hitting stuff with brand new cars was just...not an option. So avoidable dings and scrapes pretty much shave years off my life....lol

I guess this is where a friend says something profound and comforting.

Something like.......

Just be thankful that there wasn't a puppy duck taped to the bumper.

or

Just be thankful that your ballsack skin wasn't pinched between the bumper & the wall.

You should feel much better now after things being put onto proper perspective.

Chitty!!!

That stinks!!! Still a bumper is a cheap fix compared to the rest. If the body is good you are good to go. I am real picky about my vehicles. 2 weeks ago one of my employees backed one of my trucks into my personal truck. Sooo... who's insurance is going to take care of this??? No matter how you look at it, I pay. This is my bro's brother in law and he has been a good employee for the last 4-5 years with no real incidents. It was an accident and he has been a new person since he did the deed. I won't lie... I was furious!!! I walked away and let my safety hand and my bro deal with it. I purchased my truck new 10 years ago. I have kept it like new since. I have been thinking about a new ride the last couple winters, but my truck is in such great condition I have always managed to talk myself into the more sensible solution... put a set of tires on it and drive it!!!

I still want a new ride, but this one will be fixed. I will pay for the repairs and skip insurance to save the long term $$$. I will drive it for another season and I have almost gotten over the fury.

It is a material item and it is not worth the family feud it could cause. You are a wise guy if you have a couple cold ones and let the pain fade away!!!

Cheers!!!

What do ya do? You cant beat em. lol

My gf turned too sharp into the driveway with my new crew cab long box and caved both doors and the box in on the frozen snowbank because supposedly I had too much to drink to drive home... 6 years later I still use that for favors;)

Jaynelson, in a few months there will be fresh snow where you are at and this little incident will be all forgotten and life will be good again. I know exactly how you feel though. We just inherited a 1996 Dodge 2500 with a Cummins in it and there was 24,500 miles on it when we got it. I spent 3 weekends changing fluids, polishing and cleaning. It looks almost like new again. I would be really
pi--ed off if something were to happen to it but I know it is just metal and plastic. Think Snow and be happy!!! :face-icon-small-win

lHaha I actually have been thinking snow lately....first few cooler days we've had all summer. My sled has been marooned up at my parents place cause I've got too much crap for my renovations in my garage. Hopefully get it back home in about a month...clean it up/service it, sell it.....pick up snowcheck $$,$$$ permitting :face-icon-small-coo

Lets be honest...after one winter around here, any front bumper is going to be sporting some rock chips anyways LOL

Not sure how things are up there but down here they put enough chemicals and salt on the road that chrome bumpers look like crap after the winter. It sux washing rigs in the dead of winter but it is a must if you want them to stay decent in Idaho.

Is it a 12 valve? Sounds like a nice rig! How about a pic?

Allied, here are a few pics. All the kids and grandkids called my father in law "Pa" so the truck is now called Pa's Trk. The bottom portion had some rock chips (no rust) so I had the bottom sprayed with white bed liner. This will be pulling my 18' Aluma trailer sometimes this winter.
