Allergy Season (Don't ya just love fall)

Who has allergies that get really bad this time of year?

Most of the summer I can get by on Zyrtec, but this time of year it gets to the point where I have to take
methylprednisolone dose pack in the form of a bee sting kit.
From what I inderstand, this is basically a steroid?
Anyway, it works very well, but has undesireable side effects.
I become quite restless at night, making a good nights sleep out of the question.
My skin becomes untolerably itchy and worst of all, my behavior becomes
agressive. (no patience, anything trips my temper etc)
I don't even like being around myself when I get that way!

What meds are others using?

Mine have been ruthless this year, Colorado has had a lot of rain this summer and the weeds/grass are growing out of control! I've been swallowing Clariton D like chicklets and bought $150 allergy eye drops (Optivar). Can't wait for the first freeze of the year.

I have found that on bad years when I start taking med early & more frequently, that it becomes less effective & I have to switch to another brand to get decent releif.
Zyrtec (actually the generic equivilant, Clariton, allegra even sudafed.

Years ago, Alkaseltzer Plus Cold Medicine worked very well for me for quick releif.
But the makers quit using phenylproponalamine to make it so it became useless.

Glad I'm not the only one, I ha-ch-chood my snotty self to the plane this morning then got some relief for an hour and a half at 13k then sniveled all the way home once I was on the ground. The Benedryl works for me but there's only a handful of cold meds pilots can use and I don't remember which. Somebody told me it was Ragweed here but I'm not sure what it looks like.

My wife wants me to go to the witch doctor down the road who cures people of allergies with accu puncture in six weeks. Then I get called names for pointing out that in 6 weeks there'd be snow and nothing floating around to make me miserable, I'll save the money for much needed bling.

Don't ya love the BS. I got injections from my allergist twice a week for years. This year I bagged it...can't afford it anymore. It is now about 10 bucks an injection and that takes a while before I get to my deductible. I use Singular and Zyrtec. I have to use a paint mask when I go bird hunting. I get so damn sick of it....sneezing so hard and the mornings are the worst. I am blowing snot for 2-3 hours and sneezing hard. I live across from a wheat field and they are harvesting right now. God help me! Anyone ever tried this Kenelog shot? I heard that works pretty good....but has side affects too.

I have it really bad, and most meds don't work. For some reason benidryl is the only thing that helps, but it makes me way sleepy. After I had a reaction to apples I finally went to an alergist and found out what my triggers are. After that I was able to remove some of them from my life and it helped when the uncontrolable triggers are out in force. For example, I found out that dogs and feathers are both triggers for me, so after I got rid of the feather blankets and pillows and kicked the dog outside and stopped letting her sleep in out bedroom it made a HUGE difference. Now I only have symptoms during peak seasons and can keep them under control. So it pays to find out exactly what your triggers are, because there may be something you can do to reduce your symptoms.

Try eating some raw, local honey. It's a more traditional treatment but it does help people with pollen allergies.

About 2 tablespoons a day.

Tea anyone?

It does work!

2 Tablespoons of raw honey, 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of hot water. Just have a bathroom near by for the first couple of days :D

I have heard this too, so I eat the local honey and I take Palgic. I hate sagebrush :( and l look forward to the first real good freeze every year.

I had the whole grid pattern test on my back & did the injection thing for about a yr & a half. Never did work so I gave it up & started with Allegra 180. Works like a charm. Only problem I have is with my Dr. He wants me to come in every yr to get a check-up. Yea..right, just wants my co-pay & insurance co check for nothin. Last time I checked allergies dont just dissappear. My perscription (3 mths @ 90 tablets) once a yr does me just fine. I get a manditory physical once a yr for my CDL so I dont need a 2nd visit for allergies. Just need a signiture, thats it.

Nice...my allergist also has the yearly check up thing....I agree....screw that! I am gonna have to do what you do. What is Allegra 180? What is the difference from the normal Allegra?

This is a bad time of year, I have been looking forward for the first freeze the last few weeks. I am allergic to darn near everything but dogs and horses. I take allegra that is one pill for 24 hours and that helps alot. The biggest helper is the Dr. Meds nasal rinses. I tried the shots for about 3 months and began to get very sick with the worst stomach pain. It ended up being the Singular the Dr. prescribed me. Singular is nasty chit, so I quit taking it. I have never started to take the shots again, I figure I will start the first of the year. I have read that there is twice the amount of pollen in the air that what there was 100 years ago. It's no surprise why so many people have allergies nowdays.

I also have food allergies and am allergic to wheat, eggs, soy, shellfish, tomatoes, and peanuts. I have an intolerance to caffeine as well and ibuprofen makes my stomach bleed. Needless to say I am on a very strict diet, but I sure feel a lot better. No one knows why around 1% of the population has food allergies. I think it is because why obesity is so rampant. Our bodies aren't designed to eat all of the crap which is called food this day and age. Our bodies are also not designed to take all the medicine which is prescribed nowdays as well.

The 180 is just the milligrams per tablet. The normal Allegra doses are around 60 milligrams per tablet. I tried the regular stuff & still filled up a hankerchief in 4 hrs on a bad day. I was miserable. After starting the Allegra 180, it took like 1 day for it to work. It works best if I take it before bed every evening so its working by morning to start the day. It worked for me & mine was a hard case. Took a long time to get relief with all the different meds the Dr. put me on.

I totally agree, i know what works for my allergies way better then my doc does. I just want a sig on the paper so I don't have to pay the extra money. They say prescriptions are expensive, but that doesn't even include copays!

I take Allegra D in pill form, and Nasacort as a nose spray. Only when I take both of those together do I get some relief. I guess that's just another reason to love the winter! goodbye pollen.

No haa-choo allergies here, this time of year
My allergies are more like hoochie-coochie-coo
Came down with it just around high school, beginning around this time of year
All that fresh stuff running around

Ain't no cure !
