All New 10” Timbersled T/S BackCountry Ski

Timbersled has finalized design and production details with Simmons Skis to produce the new 10” wide T/S BackCountry ski that is specifically designed for the Mtn. Horse Snow Bike system. It will be the standard ski on all 2013 model kits and available as an upgrade to current Mountain Horse owners and other snow bikes using a Polaris style ski mounting.

Alan, is this a molded ski? Or has it been machined? Looks like it will be a huge improvement.

Alan, can you give us some idea of how much improvement can be expected on the trail handling? Thanks.

The new ski is much better on the trail. The closest thing that I can compare it to for trail handling is the Pro Moto Billet ski mod. It feels a lot like that. For trail riding on a scale of 1 -10; the standard 6” ski would be a 4 and this now 10” ski would be a 8 and the Pro Moto Billet ski mod would be a 9 when mounted to a 6” ski.

The whole point of this new ski is to have the ideal width for deep snow riding and to have the best of both worlds for handling and trail all in one ski without needing to add or remove anything from the ski for different conditions. This ski is not a glorified snowmobile ski; in fact it work horribly on a snowmobile and extremely good on the snow bike. This is the opposite of what we have had in the past and this tells me we are headed in the right direction.

I will admit that it does have some room for farther improvements in the future. I think the improvement will be made in the design of the ski skags. It will be cool to see what guys will come up with and we too will be working on future designs. The molded portion of the ski I am convinced it is as good as it will get. For the guys out there that are going to try to mod Gen-2 skis are wasting their time they will never be able to simulate everything that this ski has to offer. You guys that are getting them will see what I mean when you receive it.

We are very proud of this ski and hope that it will take snow biking to the next level.

Allen,

Other than trail handling, do you see any benefit to this ski over the original ski in the spring? Once the flotation issue isn't a big deal in the spring I thought the original ski planted itself well and would really hold the line. I'm thinking the 10" in the powder and once April rolls around switch out to the 6".

If your experience is that the 10" is comparable to the 6" in spring conditions then you've saved me some extra bolt-on time.

One thing this ski does better over the 6” ski is hold a side hill better no matter what the condition is. It does this with very little steering effort; you can even side hill and steer up and down the hill holding on with 1 hand. This is also true on spring snow.
The only drawback it that it is a very aggressive ski. In the spring when the conditions turn from spring time slush to glacier type snow (in late may) that is slimy soft on top and rock hard under that it starts to turn with heavier steering at slow speeds when not on a side hill. However it is not that big of a deal.

After one ride on the new ski, I'm a better rider. I have more confidence and feel more control. If you are on the regular 6 inch ski, make the change. It's sooooo different and soooo good!!
