ALERT USFS Approves Mt Bachelor Expansion

I thought the Kappa mess was a go now?

I ride there alot, but couldnt tell you a single trail number. Is 40 the "boundry" trail that skirts around the perimeter of bachelor the would get you over to Kwol?

sad to say but seems like its pretty much a done deal. impact study is complete and obviously passed. forest service is behind it, sounds like the 45 day deal is just a requirment for it to move on. i'd say your best bet to try and fight it would be to join up with some enviromental group that opposes it. those guys seem to have plenty of money and time to play the government red tape game. bummer for all when one user group deny's another the right to use public lands...

Hate to say it but there is no stopping bachelor. They are one of our areas largest employers and bring tons of revenue to the area. It's a shame because the area that we are loosing is some of our best riding, and I'm not talking about trails. The proposed Elk-kwolh trail sounds interesting but really all it will do is increase useage to one of a less used areas, so it all will get beat up and tracked out faster. There just isn't enough acreage for the amount of users.

How much further east would bachelor boundry/"rescue road" be?

I can not find a map online of the proposed expansion. all the links for the USFS just take me to the home page.

Your prob right.. The only thing that's funny to me is the fact that people give batch kudos for being an employer. Correct me if I am wrong but you will probably make more money flipping burgers at McDonald's. ski area jobs are terrible always have been. If any entry level job made more that 1,200 dollars a month I would be astonished. These aren't good jobs and all they do is add to the transient community of ski and board bums that love oregon but will never be able to make it work. They will al be gone in three years tops because of shiiiiiitty wages... Ski areas have lobbyists folks and ammo that sledders can't even fathom in most cases..
