NEED HELP! 07 800r
ok heres the deal... ive got a light bog or sputter when i am just on flat ground playing around, and this is about 90% of the time. and when i climb it just loses power and have to turn and go back down, i make it down and go right back up and it shoots up the hill effortlessly then the same day when this problem came up it would only rev up to 6500 rpm , i had a broken lower exhaust valve so i replaced it thinking i fixed the problem, but i still encounter this stuck at 6500 every once in a while. before all of this i had a big back fire while starting it, that is when these probs began.
things i checked...that are all fine.
exhaust valves
heads
pistons&rings
plugs
reeds
boots
vacuum hoses
so i am lost. please anybody, got any suggestions.
help a fellow snowester out!

This is going to sound too easy, but I ran into the same type of thing the other day, but was riding trail and it wouldnt go over 6500 unless I pinned it. Turned on the carb heaters and it ran like a top after a few minutes.

Or maybe some sticky clutch components?

Good luck

Oil?

How is the oil consumption? High? I pulled my throttle cable out of my XP the other day. The cable at the oil pump was severely frayed and sticking. There was only three threads of wire holding the cable together. The fray prevented the full application of throttle and a hanging rpm issue which had gotten severe. If the oil cable breaks the pump goes into full rich "fail safe" mode. The cable takes about 6 hours to change as you have to lift the engine to reach the oil pump on the Xp. When Doo installed these cables they put a double s shape in the routing of the cable. The s bend is causing the cables to wear out very quickly.

Buddy of mine had this same issue, and was hard starting after letting it sit for more that 10 minutes after riding.. it was simply the airbox had popped loose from the carbs

My clutch bushings never kept my machine from reving, just made it very inconsistent, and wouldnt backshift worth a crap.

Try this, It will help to rule out your raves...
remove your rave covers and make sure the valves arent stuck and when you push in on one, the other pops out. Make sure they move without a ton of resistance. Start your engine and the rave valves should suck all the way in. Remove the PTO rave solenoid plug and the raves should come about halfway out, or to where they were before you started the engine. After plugging it back in, the valves will be sucked back in. Remove the mag side wire bundle next. The raves should respond by opening all the way within a couple seconds. Mine usually require a slight blip of the throttle. If this checks out, then your solenoids are working just fine. The most likely culprit is the rave hose on the back side of the mag side solenoid. It will cause intermittent bogging, and wont allow your raves to always open. Make sure there is a good worm drive clamp on it, and you cant pull it off easily.

Are you running your stock main jets. I raised my needles a clip, and put number 20 pilots as well. Also I have my air screws at 2 turns out. It seems to run strong, and I dont have that off idle lean bog anymore.

I had a ton of snow injestion at eureka a couple weeks ago, when I got back, everything had Ice in it. Raves, carb slides, DPM solenoid...etc.

Also, have you swapped in a new set of plugs lately? Does it sound like its running on both, or when it bogs do you think it may be down to one cylinder?

And as previously stated...pop those clutches off, and give them a good once over, but I suspect they arent your intermittent bog problem...

Good luck

"Hi, my name is Joe, and I'm a recovering 07 800R owner."

Nice...made me spill my beer :)

Garrett...that other kill switch i bought started grounding out if you applied even the slightest pressure...I pulled it off, and modified my stocker, so it works again...:) no more troubles. I was going to get another and use it for a reverse button, but Im pretty sure thats out of the question now. I dont want a stiff breeze sending me into reverse!

Hi, my name is Joe and I'm finally a mostly happy 07 800R owner :)
