On Monday my buddy & I rode from Brandy on through to Ring & Callahan where some guys took us across to the Rutherford glacier to an old airstream camper trailer that was heli'd in some time ago. All we saw was the roof of it cuz of the snow. Apparently it sits on a couple of shipping containers that have old sleds in them??? There were around 15 Sledders there and lots of stories of what goes on there!!! I also heard a few party goers slid off the cliff on to the rocks below??? I would love to know more about this if someone has info and pictures. When the trailer was brought in and if there's actually containers under it ect...

Dave put it up there years ago when we had low snow and the icefields were difficult to access http://www.whistlerhelisledder.com/WHS_loc_00.html . That must have been about three weeks ago, we were up around then and saw the roof as well. Yes, it sits on top of two shipping containers and there used to be sleds in them. It has nice deck with lawn chairs inside that should be accessible in a couple of weeks. The story I heard (and read in the paper was two girls were sitting on a sleeping bag shiny side down and it started to slide off the front. One girl managed to get off and the other one went over the cliff up front.

I also talked with a guy at the snow cat (by the first can) and he said the snow cat was used to pack a runway on the smaller Glacier past Grizzly lake for Airplanes that used to bring skiers from Vancouver. He said they were DC 3’s. I’ve scoured the web looking for information on this and I can’t find anything.

Oh wow! Thx for the info! Ya I heard about the cat that made runways to. Pretty cool stuff....most beautiful place on earth up there!

Heres is a pic of the Avion from the weekend. It should be melted off enough to access soon. The "old" sleds are Revs that they used for rentals during operation. Not sure if they are still in there or hauled out. Amazing country and amazing terrain.
Cheers

Here are a pic from about 10 years ago up there. As you can see the Avion trailer sits on two containers.

Another one of me back in 2007

And yes....a girl fell off the edge on to the sharp rocks below a few years ago and died.

When I was there a few weeks ago I used my probe to find the roof of trailer that was down about 2.5 feet under the snow.

If you ride about 35 k past that to the North you can find Harrison Hut. http://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Harrison_Hut Probably the most beautiful Valley I’ve ever seen. A word of warning though, the ski trek folks claim this is their area (stay away stinky snowmobiles) so I usually show them some courtesy by bringing my back issues of Snowest and leaving them in the hut for their reading pleasure.
