Airbox

Rubber strap on top that goes down the back must be released. There are two hose clamps to loosen, they are on the opening of the throttle bodies and go on rubber boots into the airbox. Access one down by brake rotor, the other you can get to by taking the belt and secondary clutch off. Don't lose shims in front or behind secondary clutch. You must also unhook the electrical plug up on the side of the airbox, which is for the air temp sensor. May be a fuel line clamped to the side of it as well. After that wiggle it loose from the throttle bodies, then up and out. Seal the center seam while you have it out, it lets a ton of belt dust into your throttle bodies. Lightly grease the boots when you put it back to get it on easier. Vaseline works good.

GKR basically has it but since yours is an 08 you have a 2 piece air box so you dont have to take the hose clamps loose at the throttle bodies. There is two plastic clips/latches that hold the air box in. If you shine a flashlight down in there you should be able to see them...you will pull them toward the front of the sled and that will release the air box.

Thanks. I released the strap and had a long screw driver to loosen the hose clamps but it would not come out. That's why I asked. I'll check for the latches. Do you mean they are inside the air box?

No on the 08's (unless somebody did the smart thing and updated it to an 09-10 airbox) the release tab's are on the front side (towards motor) and outside of the air box right above the throttle bodies. This way you could lift the main airbox out while the lower attachment piece to the throttle bodies could stay on making for easier removal. This part of the 08 box made it a 2 piece however, they leak real bad. This being the reason to go to the 09-10 box.

Taking off the secondary is a must. Removal of the pipe and silencer can sometimes help.

on my 08 800 there is a small plastic plug that must be removed on the pto side. on the 08 700 at work there are two plugs above each throttle body. that's all in addition to the clips, fuel filter, rubber strap and electrical plug that others have all mentioned.

You are correct. Now that I have it off I see where the two clips are. The little plastic piece was on the PTO side clip. I guess that is why it was more difficult than I thought it would be. If you've had yours off did you replace the small plastic plug? Or did you put on a new air box (09 or 10) as they suggested?

i left mine off. hasn't seemed to be a problem yet.

Snowbird

So you left the two piece air box on? I think I'll seal the box along the vertical two peice and put it back on. I had some oil leaking underneath the sled and was trying to see where it was coming from.
