Air Intake through the prefilter mesh. 08 XP

I was out in some very deep pow, and had to break the ice off the mesh intake screen on my 08 XP every ten minutes. Is there something that you have made or can buy to cover the front of the mesh to keep it from getting clogged so quickly? Photos of what you have made or bought would be great. Thanks.

I was having the some problem today on my 08, I had to wipe it constantly. Is there a kit to convert that vent to the 09 when it bulges out and is rounded instead of flat?

Yup

You can buy the 09 filter for your 08. Enjoy your REV, make sure you have a belly plate on her. She's a bit fragile on the underside:face-icon-small-win

Put the 09 intake on mine yesterday, just get the foam and pre-filter take a knife and cut the old prefilter out and install. Best mod besides suspension I have done yet, deep powder and never plugged once. I also have flow rites in the back of the airbox but if I would have had the foam I would not have had to do it.

Just bought the 09 foam and pre filter today, cost me 100.00 canuck bucks. I am hoping to try it out soon as my 08 screen was totally useless in the pow.

I remember reading about this exact issue where TurboAl made a solution. He basically used some pipe insulation and cut it in half, then used that as a seal around the upper outside edges of the intake. This kept the engine heat from coming out and causing the snow to turn to ice.

I know what I just wrote probably makes no sense, but I remember reading it on dootalk. Check it out.

i put the 09 kit on my 08 and have rode twice in the deep pow. Night and day difference. definately worth the $90 or so

Just put two SLP snap in flowrites (2 inchers) in the back of the airbox, lots of room back there and a 10 minutes install, including getting the box hooked back up. problem solved for less money than the 2009 XP set up will cost....i've seen the 2009's still bog due to wet powder sticking/clogging, the 2009 is way way better set up than 2008 though, almost self cleaning. but if you have to put flowrites in anyways, save the 100 bucks, and just do the flowrites.

I got the 09 parts and will make the switch this weekend 60 bucks. I should have just got the foam and got some fabric at Johane's fabric and saved 40 bucks.:D

i read this also on doo-talk i think and i tried it worked well never had any ice build up snow would cover screen but never bogged just tap the filter and the snow would fall off and it would be clean again.

I put the 08 intake on my 09. The 09 screen pushes in, then snow by-passes insert. You can burn a sled down real fast that way. I also put the slp intake kit on, no problems at all.

What does the 08 intake look like? I think the 09 intake is a POS, so I modified it . . from what I can tell the 09 setup is really prone to snow ingestion when the foam sucks into the intake plenum creating nice hole for snow to flow in. I inserted the foam behind the shroud and glued the prefilter material to the face of it . . See how well that works. Looks like a cat intake now . . . .

Well said. The 08 intake is the flat screen only. It's like 30 bucks. Snap the old one off, clip the new one on. Also on the 09 set up the fine snow goes past the pre filter, then would ice up in the foam. I was not impressed at all with that system.

Oh snowcatter, I would also invest in a slp intake kit. Wow, it works well. The 08 intake and the slp intake are two different things and they play nice together.
