air forks

im looking at the 2017 tx models with air forks. Does anyone have any feedback on how these forks work in the winter? If you run full fork socks would that help? It would be nice to be able to adjust the spring pressure easilly

They work OK, the issue is how they designed the balance chamber on these is super hard hits (that mostly only snowbikes can create) will cause air to get locked in the balance chamber and they get stuck down. Then the fork has to be taken apart to release. Its not really an issue of messing up seals and loosing pressure but pressure getting forced into the wrong spot that is a non adjustable option so you can't just bleed it down. Some people haven't had issues but if you want to jump it much or rally bumps really hard your going to have a problem sooner then later. Spring covnersions aren't too spendy and then you have a really solid fork setup.

Every AER we have built has failed on the snow , No failures on the dirt. even with the WP updated seals they will eventually leave you limping back to the truck.they drop and will not come back up, Air side will require pulling apart and bleeding air off the internals. Its the cold temps and hard hit that causes this issue.(frozen internal grease causes seal failure)

thanks for the replies guys! jeff slavens told me the same thing basically. I'll definately be going with the 2017 te300 instead of the tx for this reason. i found a good deal on a used 17 tx300 but if i have to spend 700 or whatever plus time to rebuild the forks its not that great of a deal

get the TX for the tranny, many will trade you a spring fork for the AER, PM me if you need help trading

i agree with the close ratio trans for sure on a stock bike, but i will be turboing it this year. i also ride dirt almost as much as snow and prefer the lower first gear for dirt. my dealer told me the only difference was a lower first gear. If you can confirm otherwise that would be great because when i rode both back to back last yr it almost felt like 2-3 were closer as well

There are a few shops that fix the o-ring in the air chamber to never lock down. Brockstar is one of them... the other is Kreft. Although very high dollar I went the Kreft route as they have something called revalve control. it's an external revalve adjuster on the fork that lets you revalve on the fly. I can run my dampening fork wood soft for trails all summer then crank it down to take big hits and drops on the snow bike. They also guarantee the fork to not stick down after thier fix of the o-ring, they also improve the spring rate on the air chamber drastically and do a nitrogen charge on the negative chamber so it's super consistent. These are the best forks I've ever used to date now that I've had them worked by Kreft. Even better than KYB SSS with factory connection work done.
