Air bubble elimination ='s double oil usage!!

I had read on here many people had air bubbles in their oil injection system, mainly right out of the oil reservoir. After reading this I looked at mine and noticed the same bubble. I removed the bolt and the rubber band that holds the tank on and raised the tank above the bubble and used a heat gun to heat up the line and oil and waited til the bubble disappeared. Continued to warm it up for another 5 or so minutes and reinstalled the tank. I went for a ride the next day and noticed that I used as much oil in the next ride as I used in the previous 2 combined. This could be part of the problem with a couple of these motors going down.
I think most sleds have these bubbles in them and is restricting the oil flow. I am just thankful for at least running pre-mix in the first tank of gas. Everybody should check for this and eliminate the bubble. I checked it again once I had returned and the bubble had not re-appeared. The key is getting the line and tank warm enough to allow the oil to flow more freely.

that's kinda scary. My buddy and his brother (who have always ridden polaris) say its amazing how little oil these things use. I was pretty nervous the first couple rides, as his brother's pro had already burnt down (dealer didnt prime his oil pump, but ours did get primed) . Another one of our riding pals has a pro and hadn't put any oil in after a couple rides.

It consumes very little oil..
And it has a 4 years warranty.
I dont see the problem. :)

yea...i agree...but you'll loose some precious weekends in the meantime. Mine used maybes 1/2 quart in 100 miles.

1/4in air bubble is all I can see. No kinks either. :face-icon-small-con

Oil usage also depends on throttle application.

Girlfriend and I both have Pro-RMK's. When we ride together, I typically burn more oil in the same amount of miles--and more gas. The more wide open the throttle, the more oil usage.

Thats a good point Murph, throttle usage does make a difference in oil usage. Will continue to watch it.

Bubble in oil line

Take the tank Off and tip the top in and squeeze the line and it will push the bubble back into the tank. It may take a couple of times just did it on mine.

Is this a large rubber band? I noticed one laying on the snow below my Pro in the parking lot. Thought it was strange to see4 this rather over large rubber band in the snow. It now seems like it was mine! Where does it go, what is it for and do I need to replace it? By the way, WTH is a rubber band doing on a sled?

Hmmm .... mine has been sucking up the oil big time with the first tank of gas (premixed).... first 75 miles have been in a lot of deep snow. Last ride at 9000ft it was pulling strong and taching at 8200 rpm :)

Probably should not have called it a rubber band. It is a large black rubber bungee if you will that is located on the one end of the oil reservoir. It goes around the reservoir and connects to the clutch cover.

good point with the throttle position. goin slow through the trees/sidehills/meadows/jumps wouldnt use much oil. we really dont do that much straight up long pull hillclimbing

Well unless his couple rides were only to the end of the drive way and back and if he didnt use any oil he has engine damage. You did say he didnt add any oil. Does that mean his tank is now empty or he didnt use any?

There is no magic non oil using motors. The pumps are set from the factories. Sadly with thoughts more to emissions than ideal motor life and performace. If i recall the ideal ration or oil to fuel use is about 40-1.\
If at the end of a long hard day and used a full tank gas and not a liter of fuel id change the pump setting or for sure run some premix.

By eyeballing it, I would agree that mine used more oil after taking the bubble out...which is a good thing. Thankfully I was still on pre-mix before I knew about the bubble, so hopefully all is well.

Oil line bubble

Glad I saw this thread, well the other one with the picture. Mine 09 D8 had a huge bubble right next to the filter. I do have about 190 miles on it since the filter was replaced and oil did go down about a normal amount but I feel much better getting it out of there. Thanks Snowest. Riding the next two days and I will be closely watching my oil consumption.

By the way, WTH is a rubber band doing on a sled?

That's your power band.

I couldn't resist. Ha Ha
I noticed that my oil consumption went up after removing the air bubble. 2 rides and the bubble has not returned.
