AIARE is a backcountry partner with Winter Wildland Alliance.

Our Backcountry Partner program is a unique partnership program for backcountry-oriented retail stores, guide services, outfitters and other small businesses who support, and want their customers to know they support, Winter Wildlands Alliance’s mission of promoting and preserving winter wildlands and a quality human-powered snowsports experience on public lands. A huge thanks goes out to these businesses for sustaining the efforts of Winter Wildlands Alliance. Please support these great businesses and our mutual efforts to help keep the backcountry experience safe and pristine.

Personally spoke with the Executive Director of AIARE this morning, at the time of their involvement with this program they were ONLY supporting backcountry avalanche education to their knowledge. Several years ago it came to AIARE's attention that they were fighting against motorized users and at that point they recognized that it was not in their interest to continue to be a supporter of this program due to the conflict of interest and broke all ties. He is going to be contacting his people to follow up with the fact they are still listed and want it to be clear that they are not funding any fight against motorized users.

I know the guys and gals at AIARE personally and they fully support shared use and most of them ride sleds as hybrid users as well (several own their own sleds). They are interested in promoting safe travel in avalanche terrain.

I will update as information is provided

Thanks

I will also be recommending that they get a screen name and can speak for themselves on this/any matter that may arise in the future

Brian,
Great that you made the call. Intent of this post is to get forum members to put pressure on those supporting WWA. Hopefully it will lead to these companies and organizations to stop supporting the Winter Wildlands Alliance. Problem with many companies is that they indirectly support some of these groups with grants and is kept from the public eyes.

Brian,
When I contacted many groups that supported WWA, many stated they were unaware that the group was against motorized use. I believed this to be true in most cases, since some groups like the WWA can mislead.

Can you ask AIARE why two of their partners (New Belgium and Black Diamond/Pieps) support the WWA?

Not trying to stir the pot, but thought you may be able to put pressure on AIARE to get some of their partners to stop supporting the Winter Wildland Alliance. Anything we can do, will help the sport of snowmobiling and our right to ride.

just read that after second convo with Brian Lazar but he is setting up an account now so will be able to field that

I am from Fort Collins and can tell you that New Belgium is a very "hippie" brewery, I would say we should all send emails to them expressing our concern. I will try and get a call to them shortly.

While you're at it, could you ask them to stop making their beer with dirty dishwater? ;)
