Aftermarket pistons

Is anyone running after market pistons in ther 06 ptek engines? I got 2800 miles out of the first set of OEM before the ring pin pushed in and the ring spun. Well you know what happened after that. I have about 1800 miles on the set in there now. My 14 year rides it now but I would like to put new pistons in it before the snow flys. I have heard some good things about SPI know a few people with them and have had good luck. OEM are about 275 bucks a piece. SPI are 90 bucks each. We changed a buddies OEM out last fall he had about 3000 miles and the pin was almost gone. Caught it just in time. He went with the SPI. Everytime I have seen a failure on Skidoo OEM it is always the pin pushing in?

I used a set of SPI pistons in my 800 HO but I did that because I got the set in with a partial trade for other parts (pistons were new) I haven't had any problems but if you hold the SPI and the Doos it is no question which is the better quality, Doo.

Every failure I have seen with the stockers are the pin that keeps the ring from spinning always either pushes in or wears off and the ring turns. How many miles do you guys run before you change pistons?

I have always replaced my top end around 3000 miles...of course it depends on how hard you ride and if you have it to the bars 90% of the time. Might be able to run longer but I doo them at 3000 for piece of mind.

Well I got 2800 out of the first engine before it went. Luckily it was under warenty. It has about 1800 on the rebuild. 500 of which were from mu 13 year old boy. So i am thinking I should be safe to take this engine to about 2500 before i rebuild it.

I've had good luck with the SPI stuff, if you are worried about the cost, change them every two seasons.
If I was going to buy today, I'd look at the MCB dual ring.
