aftermarket head? and 900 or 975

I need a new head, and ride at sea level - 3000 ft on my 2005 with slp flash, pipe, and intake. Will I benefit much from an aftermarket head: slp or rktek? I wont need to reflash or anything?

Also I need a whole new motor, case to head. I need to keep this under 2k. I found a complete 975 with apparently only 5 rides on it for sale that is far away and I would have to have shipped, or for a similar price I can get a new rebuilt motor...

What would you do?

975 will require race fuel.

i would stay away from the 975 also.

i have a 975 like z-man. but since we are mountain riders, we can get away with Avgas/pump gas...but you would have to run straight race fuel (or avgas) which is not cheap..and hard to get in some places.

i know of a few sources to get parts from if you need the help.

i sent you a PM on a head, but got no reply..let me know if your interested, and i can help uyou out.

i would build a stock 05 motor, use the updated 32mm crank kit, and send it to indydan for the TM1 setup, also get the cases from indydan (he also has good used cases for sale)...get 2 used cylinders/top end kit, my head and your set for around $2000

I did the RK Tek domes.....with the slp pipe and can, and the slp tuning..... it didnt run right. Took the tune back to stock and ran great. No tuning required. I have fire n ice air box, v force reeds and slp pipe and can. Ran like crap with boondocker on it also and couldnt get it to run right and would lean out at cruise at 5k light load. But that was slp tuning leaning it out to much.

I have an rktek head with custom 12:1 domes for the 975 but it will need one dome replaced. Might be able to get the guy who made them to make another but not sure what he would charge.

900 with a little tuning ....pipe can intake porting should run just fine with no " messin around " every ride. If you can find a head or domes make sure they fit with your plan and elevation.!! You'll never go wrong with Indy Dan's work so do what he recommends

Kelsey at RK TEK will sell a new dome for around $100..he is going to cut my spare 975 head for pump fuel when I can get some cash..and that's $225 for that..but using stock head (no inserts)

Machineman, modified the head for the custom domes so a stock RKtek dome won't work.
