Advice Needed on 06 M6

I would like to get in to mountain riding and found a mint condition 06 M6. Is this a good sled? Is a 600 going to be underpowered or should I look for an 800? Any advice appreciated.

Get an 800 and call it done...unless you dont want to spend the extra.. the 600 with get you started but you will
probably want to upgrade and spend the extra anyway...

MTN sled

X2 On the above, not just on the HP (you lose ~ 3% HP for each 1,000 ft elevation) but also for the tech advances & weight loss as you go newer. IMO the '10 or '11 M8'S are great sleds. I still own one, beside my '16 M8000.

Thank you for the input. Right now it is it is coming down to budget as the ultimate deciding factor. The M6 seems like a good value for a starting mountain sled. As a new mountain rider, I like the light weight of the 600 and think it will allow me to learn how to ride.

Thank you for all of the great feed back. Quick up date, the M6 sold before I even had a chance to look at it. However, I just found a 2009 M1000. I have heard that they have a tendency to blow engines. Any thoughts on this machine? Thanks. Rick

in stock form there kinda heavy and put out good torque. you can make real power out of them with a bit of work. of the M.
they need pistons every 2000 mile and the bottom end is only good for about 3500-4000 miles.
the M8 will only need pistons every 3000 miles and the bottom ends will never die. IMO pick up a 10-11 m8 this is the best years

I rode an '09 M1000 for a couple years and they are great sleds if you are willing to do some mods and are capable of tuning. If not, the weight and stock power output makes an M8 a much better machine for most people. Lighter, easier to handle, and you can just ride it without worrying about anything.

Had an 08 M1000. This^ is my experience as well. BTW, 09 is a much better sled. Better boards and tunnel and elect engine reverse. And with a few off the shelf lightweight parts, it aint too porky.
I was always kind of jaded about the power my mod M1000 made, running it in the CO mtns. Brought it to WA where the riding is more like 4kft and holy he!!, that thing was fast!

That said, apples to apples, a M6, 7, 8 is more of a pull n go sled than the 1000. Youll have to keep the 6 pinned wfo a lot more though at high alt.
