Advice - 2006 RMK 600 144 or 2004 SXViper Mtn

I am currently looking at either an 04 yamaha sxviper mtn 700 151" or 06 polaris rmk 600 144". Both sleds have just under 2K miles. Anyone have experience riding both machines? If so I would love to hear your thoughts. I plan to ride 50% mountain and 50% groomed trails. Any known issues I should be aware of? How is the reliability between the two? How is the viper in the deep snow compared to the rmk? Any general info would be appreciated. Thanks!

*Does anyone know what hp the viper produces with triple pipes compared to the rmk 600?

I'd go with the Polaris for several reasons. First, the Yamaha Pro Action suspension is out dated, second, the Yamaha is heavier and not as nimble and third, my experience with triples is that they are a headache to tune and get running right. Just my opinion......

I have not owned the viper just its very close cousin the mountain max. And Ive owned a 06 600 switchback 159 with a turbo. Does the viper have pipes? or is it the stock set up? A set of pipes on those 700 triples makes them come alive! If the yamaha suspension is out dated then the sled industry is going downhill fast cause my mountain max is such a better ride than my 09 assualt and 07 rev. If your riding 50 trails 50 mountains just slap a set of pipes on the viper and enjoy!! Really the only advantage the 600 has is more rider forward set up other than that I think the yamaha is better. But really just go with whatever feels comfortable to you. Both sleds should be reliable. And I Would think the viper is 140 with pipes and the rmk maybe 120 stock?? Maybe less...

Thanks for the info. Yes the viper has a set of pipes. As of now I am leaning toward the viper. Most of my buddies are running twin 800's so I like to change things up a little and be different in the group.......

Get the Viper Mtn, the '06 RMK chassis isn't worth crap but if you found an '07 newer then the 600 HO is worth it!

I ride a 600....

Great power to weight , and the rider forward is much easier on my back/knees ( I'm old )and mine runs superb w/ 3400 miles on it.

It'd be better if it was a 155' but, the 600 HO is such a great motor for me that I can live with it. Very responsive and easy to throw around, and I am a fan of the front suspension setup. Mine is bone stock.

The hood panels aren't great, and the tunnel can build up ice, but mine handles great, trail or powder, and i can hang with 800's in the trees and meadows. It's the long climbs that you may falter on when compared to the 8's. Storage isn't thrilling either, but that's what my pack is for.

Overall, I love mine, and plan to ride it for a while before I buy a pro.
