actual hawk weights

fat hawk

I weighed mine last year 440 lbs with a 151 and 12 g tank no fuel but other wise ready to ride. 05 600

why are some 2 ski weights less than single ski?!?!? we gotta be able to knock alot of weight off these birds

Besides the front of the frame that might bend if you don't have any reinforcing, what we have to remember is we pretty much have a tank in between our legs. Look at the XP frame and you'll say " Better not hit a rock with that thing"

The only theorical difference between a Hawk and a 2 ski is that a hawk has one ski, not 2. The rest "could be" identical or very similar. The thing I'm questionning too, is this, let's take these parts : two heavy duty 12" fork legs + frame to hold all of that together (and the design hassle to work around motor/pipe) + triple clamps + ski adapter and brackets. Is that whole array of parts can really lighter than two pairs of lighweight A-Arms made out of Cromoly, 2 air shocks and an additionnal ski ?

From that theory on, we could stipulate if we can shave some weight off. Way easier to design a frame with 2 A-Arms frame according to me than work your way around 2 forks that pivots... That's considering the design of the one ski is a twin fork design.

I weight the forks assemblies the other day : (forks, T-Clamps, brackets to hold ski) and if I remember well, It was 27 pounds but a guy would have to validate what I say.

Rude is yours still apart ?

I am under the belief that the frame is where all the weight is.. a nicely designed tube frame would be lighter and much more ridged..
The last few days as Ive been working on my Mod, the hole saw has almost come out several times for a lightening party..lots of meat can come off of this from a laymans perspective..anyone already swiss cheese there frame??

800HO torque.

I saw half frame rail thickness Top Gun machines the first time I went to Quebec.

I never got out of them whether they had tried this with the 503F or 600HO engines, it was obvious though the 800 was too much, leftward stress was easily seen. Maybe with the reinforcements some of you have come up with it could be done again.

I'm willing to dissassemble the entire 503F if financial backers want to kick in for light weight replacement copy's. Same goes for the rear suspension, if a new dragon or XP can run with those flimsy rails, surely we can, lots of extra material designed for a different era there.

why copy stamped out Alu. pieces just use the basic geometry and build a tube frame..On the other hand, It would be very easy to reproduce the existing frame rails from a carbon/ Kevlar matrix..Hmmmm ....only time..I happen to know someone who can do that...

Now thats what i'm talking about!!!!!! I think this has gone through all of our minds at one time. The side frames are hella stout. I keep going back to tube tho, it seems to be the easyiest.

whos gonna have the first ducatihawk!???

as a mt bike racer years ago i considered myslef a "weight weenie"....always looking for lighter, till everything broke! i guess i can say that a hawk may be a touch hefty. but i have a 2002 503 with many many hard miles of pounding bumps, icy trails, creek crossing, mud bogs,crashes,etc...never had to replace any major parts. 1 cog belt, a few handlebars,1 set of hyfax, and 1 track. id have to say i put on atleast 2,000+ miles a season...should be around 14,000+miles or so??? never had a 2ski last like that!
