I have been testing the latest prototype from ABS this season for a wireless bar mount for snowmobiles. Here is a little demo of it. cheers dave

Looks good. When deploying remotely via the button; does the unit send a signal to all ABS packs in the area? Effective radius? What's involved in refitting the wireless components to an older ABS pack? Thanks

I belive it CAN, but you have to set it up that way.

Effective radius?
If a guy can indeed activate his buddies bag from somewhere else on the hill...the range should be a few hundered yards for sure.

The ABS wireless is set before you start your day, both parties have to have the wireless trigger which is sold separately, or for the bar mount just you would have to have the wireless trigger and they all plug and play into any abs unit that has the pneumatic handle. Wireless units transmit 300 meters for 30 seconds but each unit has its own signal, think of it like a heart rate monitor, they have their own signals and dont interfere with any others...signals change as well so you will never get two alike. If two guys were using the wireless they pair them in the morning, now the are set to set of each others bag remotely, you can take your self out of the system or add it back in, and have several people on the system, like for heli skiing etc.

Here is the video on the wireless system...

Slick. It appears that all I would need is the new trigger handle and related downstream components. Availabilty and an approx price point? Great stuff! Thanks

I think retail on wireless is $499.00 , includes wireless trigger, new safety handle holder( as the wireless handle is bigger) and batteries...and I have no idea what price will be on bar mount...we are still testing it etc. so not sure when it will be out, certainly not 13/14 season. It may not be far off either that voice activation could be used to set off your bag!

Man, that's really cool! How easy is it to push by accident? That would be my only concern (well, beside trusting the wireless set up to work - more complicated = more chance for problems), but I really like where the technology is going and this is a great idea!

Hence the 3 seconds to hold down the button. I think 2 seconds is enough...you wont hold a button down for that long by accident, which is why the system is set to that. Thanks for the comments! I have to say I have used the wireless for 3 seasons skiing and it is very cool and works perfectly. Remember having a wireless system still allows you to pull your own bag as well, you just pull the handle, but if you forget or don't have time, it is nice to know there is a second back up by your friend. cheers dave
