Does anybody have the ABS Freeride avalanche backpack? How does every one like it? Im planning on buying an avalanche bag before winter and this is the only one that i have found that ive liked. All the other ones look so big and bulky! any infoappreciated thanks guys

I had that pack before, loved it. If the storage is enough for you and the price is right than buy it for sure;)

The Freeride 4L pack is a great pack and very popular among snowmobilers; it has an external shovel pocket and is sleek and lightweight. The main complaint about the Freeride is the lack of storage space; it doesn't have much. The new ABS Powder 15L Snowmobiler pack fits about the same as the Freeride 4L but has more storage space.
I personally switched from the Freeride to the Powder SB15.

Andddd this is the pack I have now:) I bought it from snowbigdeal when the model first came out, excellent quality, and you can't beat dealing with the guys at SBD!

I switched to SB15 from the Freeride also, and love it! Storage is just right.

Get the freeride and let your sled pack the rest. I don't want 30 pounds hanging off my shoulders all day. Each to their own. I would even buy a carbon fiber bottle if they would get them out to the public. Everyone is lightening up their sleds so why would you want more weight on your back all day?

I have the freeride, and the 15L ABS. The freeride was very nice, there are sertian things that you need to carry on your persons. The freeride does not have enough room for everything. So the next yr. I went to the next size, I felt the room was there but the pack itself was a little to heavy. But still a very nice pack. This yr. after a little testing, I went with the BCA 22. It has the room I want and has the wieght i am looking for.

FYI don't be afraid of an older ABS Freeride or any other previous ABS product. Buddy had one that was pretty old, want to say 10 years, but not sure. He has been wearing an avy pack for a long time. One of his customers wanted to buy it so before he sent it out he pulled the handle to check it and it filled right up, tight as a drum. This pack had been used a lot, never been blown except when it was brand new and had sat in a locker for a couple 3 years. Definitely blow the pack and put a new cylinder and handle kit in it but they can be trusted.

I have the original freeride, been a great pack for me, love the fit. Four seasons. Only carry some survival and first aid essentials in the pack, shovel, probe of course, rest is on the sled. It doesn't hold much. I do carry a shovel on the sled, too, so I don't have to jack with the pack shovel for a stuck.

I too wish there was a long rumored CF bottle available in the US (looks like they are in Europa). I know there were shipping/refill issues a few years ago - any updates on when, if ever, would be greatly appreciated.

ABS Freeride

I have the ABS Freeride as well , My personal preference would be to not wear any kind of pack at all . So for me i was looking for the smallest best fitting highest quality pack i could find , That lead me to the ABS Freeride , And to this day i haven't found anything else i would wear . We have three members in our normal riding crew that have this pack , We all have had great luck with these packs , No problems . ABS products are outstanding .
