ABS Avalanche bag - Snowpulse?

I have the snowpulse, extremely light and comfortable. The pack is tall/long; when I am sitting on my sled it is slightly lifted off my shoulders. I like the pack and I do not find that the bulky shoulder straps interfere with my helmet while riding. My 2 cents.:)

you should have put your 2 cents toward a ABS bag instead......That's my 2 cents.

See you next month buddy!

I bought a snowpulse this year, I liked the sales pitch with the whole bag around your head thing and how it's supossed to keep your head on top. From other storties I have heard (but never seen with my own eyes) with the ABS you are always on top, but face down. I did see a demo where two people standing on chairs deployed there packs at the same time (one abs and one snowpulse) the ABS inflated very fast, where as the snowpulse took almost 3 seconds. I was a little concerned with that but still ended up buying the snowpulse.

Bottom line is I hope I never have to use it. EVER!

my 2 cents

mike duffy says two draw backs with snowpulse. if you deploy while trying to ride out an avalanche you don't have any head movement while trying to ride. if you go through trees and snag and rip a hole in the snowpulse your done. at least with the abs you have 2 bags. these are two small problems

i got to put on a snowpulse and deploy it at a demo i'm sold on the snowpulse. also if you accidently set off your bag or pull it. you can refill the bottle and ride. with the abs your trip is done as it needs to be sent off to factory.

you don't have to send back to the factory. just put in a new canister.

The snowpulse That my buddy bought (piker) Is way lighter than my abs bag. That's the one thing I like about it. The one thing I didn't like was my helmet would hit the shoulder straps where the air bag is stored when I turn my head.

I am tossing around the idea of buying one for my wife because it is lighter than the abs.

I wrote a few things about my Snowpulse under "got my new snowpulse". Seems like a great product, mine has worked flawlessly around the house for the last month:D. I personally like the "neck brace", fits just like a moto collar if you're into that kind of thing. The 2 bag advantage of ABS is the only advantage I can see. It's like comparing water wings to lifejackets. The list of improvements over ABS is very long, not to mention 150L of breatable air around your face if you are burried. ABS has a new campaign that says "don't be a test dummy", which I thought was pretty funny because when they did te test dummy trial in europe they found them face down in the snow, and still, the ABS bags save almost everyone. Whats really funny is how long this took us. ANY bag floats to the surface. A nice jacket costs $650. Skis are $1000. My Kayak PFD is $350. Snowpulse is $1000. Basic equipment.

Get one for yourself so there is someone on the surface to look for your friends who thought it was too expensive.

Second that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Snowpulse

So, I am ordering the Snowpulse. At first, I was put off by the cost of these bags. And then (God forbid) I thought if I was in an avalanche, I wouldn't mind the 1000 bucks. Face it - this is an expensive (but very fun) sport. 1000 bucks to save my life is worth it.

I like the wrap around trauma protection, and that it is likely to make you float face up on the surface. Once this bag catches on ... I think it will be seen all over.

I wish they made a black only bag, though. Black goes with everything, and the red stripes do not go with my Rev XP :)

rocky mountain yamaha is a snowpulse dealer. 403-627-2127 ask for garth or myles.

Even though the ABS dummies were found face down. At least they were on top, and not burried. Where exactly did the pulse dummies end up? Who knows, has enyone ever seen any test results? Did they even test or did they just steal the idea from ABS and modify it a bit and hope it works on the same principal.

C'mon be realistic, it's not like some guy is building them in his garage. Any bag is better than no bag, in all likelyhood the next company that comes out with one will learn from both of them and produce a better product yet. I'm going Snowpulse but if all I could get was an ABS that'd be fine too.

when i was doing some backcountry skiing i watched a friend of mine get caught in a 2000 foot slide. it took from start to finish around 3 seconds, i had a good look at the snow pulse bag the material wasn't as strong as the abs and the inflate time took way to long. im stickin ith an abs

I totally agree with you. Anything is better than nothing. But it seems people are just assuming this is the greatest thing ever built, I am not knocking it at all. I am just simply saying that it is very hard to find any of the testing they have done at all. Either way I think the bag will be fine.

Fact is ABS has saved a lot of lives, and I think only 3 people have died wearing their bags (once inflated). I don't know if snowpulse has any confirmed "saves". ABS has changed the whole game and made a great product. Sorry if it sounded dramatic that the dummies were found face down, ya you're still on the top!... face down face up whatever... just get me out of there!

No one is stealing ideas, ever seen an inflatable lifevest? We're not talking rocket science. Don't worry, big stuff goes to the top, you don't have to "hope it works on the same principal". If your still not convinced, put on a snow pulse, inflate the bag, and jump in the lake. Now try to swim down to the bottom.

The point is... we are privilaged to search and destroy all the pow in hells half acre, I get a hundred sketchball turns in a day sledding to every one I do ski-touring. Lots of us are going to be in avalanches, and we should ALL have a big red bag attached to us when it happens! ANY big red bag.
