thank u jeff, word on the street is the lowball u on the phone then screw u when u arrive in person, promise the moon but then jack up the price. thanku

I like Dave Smith. I'm not the type that enjoys haggling. The price was set and if I didn't like it I could walk. I had buddy buy a brand new Dodge there a few years back. He tried to get the local dealer within a couple grand but they weren't even close. He drove 9hrs for his.

What does this Don Smith do from 9 hours away?

Your LOCAL dealer employs your neighbors
Your LOCAL dealer pays local taxes
No matter where you buy, you pay local sales tax when you get home and Smith employees people from three states
Your LOCAL dealer supports your local fundraisers
Smith gives to charities and saves you enough money when you buy there to be able to support the charity of YOUR choice if you so choose
Your LOCAL dealer provides local service
Your LOCAL dealer still gets service and warranty work at full fair which goes directly in his pocket since he doesn't negotiate the profit margin on labor.

People drive ten/twelve hours to save $1000 on a sled or a four wheeler, and people want to know if there are any left at that price. I drove 3 hours and saved 18K on my wife's Tahoe and people say I'm cutting the throat of a local business. Saving 18K allowed me to spend that money locally and support more than 1 business. To each their own I guess, but I've purchased 4 rigs from Smith and I'm sure they'll get more of my money before it's over.

Dave supports a whole town. Bought my 06 new from Dave Smith and it was great.

Bought my 2010 used.

Bad Experience for Me

I personally had a bad experience with my salesman at Dave Smith last year when I was looking to trade-in my 07 GMC gas for a diesel truck. Very long story. I ended up using three salesmen and a sales manager because they kept quiting or getting fired. But basically they didn't listen to what features I wanted, called my none stop with trucks that didn't fit my search criteria and then wanted to give me "rough" trade-in on my truck. My truck was not "rough".

I eneded up selling my truck on Craigslist for 2k more than what I was asking Dave Smith to give me, paid $350 for a plane ticket to Roy, UT and saved $4,500 on buying a truck from the dealer there for basically the same truck that Dave Smith had on their lot.

I believe, and try as much as possible to keep my money spending local, but when it comes to major purchases like a new truck I will travel to whomever is giving me the best deal. Whether it be 20 miles or 600 miles.

I will have a hard time going back to Dave Smith for my next truck. In fact, just last month we bought the wife a new Yukon and didn't even look at Dave Smith. Ended up buying it in Kalispell.

Just my 2 cents.

The local dealer had the same opportunity to get the sale as Dave Smith. In fact they had the benefit of being 2 grand higher and still getting the sale. Their attitude was if you can buy it elsewhere for cheaper, do it. Obviously most if their clientele has more money than brains.
Shouldn't a merchant have to earn your business rather than expect it because you live down the road. It's kinda like FreeAgent on here. She offers a good price but most people don't mind paying more because of her service. Work your a$$ off and get the sale.

Perhaps, or maybe they see the value added to their purchase from a local loyalty viewpoint.

Now if your local dealer sucks, that's a different story altogether.

Dave Smith has my loyalty for buying new trucks. I payed 15k less there for a brand new vs a demo at my local shop. Walked in signed papers and left within 30minutes with a new truck. 1200 miles and 18 hours was well worth 15grand. This BS about buying local to support local is exactly that BS. You want my business compete for it. Now this 2012 i bought the local dealer finally woke up and was comparable.

Bought my '11 cummins from them an my '12 Grand Cherokee Dave smith. Buddy of mine is a sales man down there so there was no BS! And even when it comes to service I drive the 3hrs to have them do all my service because it's that good and my local dealership is a joke and refuses to work with you or even return your phone calls! It's pretty sad!!!! Jeff just hit me up buddy and I'll give you his name and number and he will hook you up.

By far the BEST!

I have bought 3 trucks from them in the last 8-10yrs! Nothing but good things to say and not mention I saved a **** load of money!

my local dealer has always matched Smith's price or beat and it is very nice to have local dealer if you have problems.

had a 04 duramax crewcab short box 108k on it leather 6inch lift.looking to trade at dave smith for the milage with a straight piped new 6.7 cummins with a manual. anyone cummins fans? or stick with duramax

I'm all about supporting the local economy and nothing is more "local" than my wallet!

When I bought my wife's Tahoe from Smith's, my local dealer said THEY can't buy them that cheap! Purchased a '11 Cummins a couple years ago and the CDA dealer was close enough to Smith's price for me to purchase it. I've never had any issues purchasing from Smith and people are CRAZY to not check them out.

Probably better if you don't have a trade. They lowballed my trade big time! Found out the windshield was cracked and tried giving me the crap that it would be $1500 to service and replace windshield. What a joke. Both could be done for $250. Plus every time I called the final numbers would change. Not by a few hundred, but by a few thousand! Took a couple very heated conversations to get it right. In the end, yes I saved a bunch of money. But Dave Smith is horrible to deal with. At least my salesman was!
