Abnornal trailer tire wear

I've got an old POS trailer that we use for going out west.

We put 10k miles on it and it ate the inside 2" of the tires completely to the cords and we had to change both tires at a rest stop to continue. :D

I'm thinking the axle is bent/bending.

Any comments?

I'd bet on that. Stick a straightedge on the axle....deflection??

Considering the age of the trailer, it's totally possible. I may just put a heavier axle on it so I can rule that out. I want to get an inline enclosed just for the sleds, but trailer prices up here are nuts.

Very easily could be the suspension. Is it a rubber ride? Very suspect. If a spring suspensin I'd look hard at the springs and where they attach to the frame. Seems like the spring mounts like to wear out.

Drive 15 hours and I can save you a lot of money!! haha

I have seen this happen before because the trailer was overloaded by several thousand lbs. If the axle is bent, that would also cause the same type of wear.

Define "a lot" and on what ;)

It's spring suspension and looks like it's getting put out to pasture!

Yeah, it has no upward campber even at rest. It's toast. Going shopping tomorrow :)

I got tire issues on my 09 inline that has about 5000 miles on it. Tires are cupping and wearing inside of tire on one side and nothing on other side. 7000 lb axles. It's a tandem. Any ideas on this issue. It has bias plys on it. thats all i can figure out would be wrong. help me out here guys.

Sledneck84 get rid of bias and put on good radials your problem will be over. Bias tires are junk to start with, see it all the time in the shop I manage.

Take it to a spring/suspension shop. They can fix the axle on the trailer. Just needs to be bent back to the proper toe in and camber.

I bought a new trailer, pick it up tomorrow. No sense messing with the old POS. :)

Slightly off topic, yet on topic.. I have a newish (just over a year old) 18' flat deck car hauler.. and I notice when loaded.. about 1/3 capacity and above.. the odd time even unloaded the axles sit funny.. like I look at the tires and one is straight up and down and the other is / (I'm talking between one axle and the other) sometimes one is / and the other is \ not quite that bad obviously... I just find it wierd.. and I'm tipically on a flat surface, so it's not that 1 wheel os on something...

My tire wear has been "normal" thus far... but it just bugs me sometimes... I should add it doesn't happen all the time, just something I notice time to time when I make stops while towing.

The trailer has never been overloaded, but it has been just shy of capacity once. If I had to speculate I would say it has between 5 and 10 thousand miles on it. And it's done it since new new.. well within the first month anyhow..

any ideas? or should I not worry about it?
Thanks

Got the new trailer. Problem solved. LOL :)

From what I could tell on the old one, the deck was actually bowed in the center, causing the axle to bend. It's been delegated to a junk trailer :)

I'm just going to bet it looks like your tires are trying to walk off the rims. It is probably because you are turning slightly before you stop and since the wheels/axles don't pivot like the front wheels on your truck, they are forced to kind of skid during a turn. Front axle on the trailer goes one way, rear axle goes the other way which is why your tires look goofy.

When you notice this again pull straight forward another 100' so that you can get the truck and trailer straightened out. Check the tires again to see if they are sitting straight and no longer canted.

I can't remember if I've seen the issue with the truck inline with the trailer... I'm also trying to remember if I've seen it with the trailer not attached to the truck.. Right now it's sitting there and it looks fine... time will tell I guess..
