So Im sitting here for the morning before heading to work doing the usual checking of a few web sites, snowest, facebook, and snow & mud, When I notice a constant theme. Happy Cinco De Mayo everywhere on the net. Next thought to me is, Why the H3ll are all these Americans celebrating another country's Independence Day? I don't have a problem with latin pieps as long as they work hard, don't contribute to crime and are honest. (Same values I expect out of anyone) But Why are we in this country having parties or making a big deal out of our neighbor to the souths holiday? We Don't do it for our hat ;) up north, and we like them a lot better!

It's all marketing by the beer companies and party related biz.....Give any reason to have a party and you'll see the mass marketing....we like to party and it's a reason.

The Mexican people celebrate defeating the French at one time in history.....Ok......who hasn't. :face-icon-small-sho

(defeated the French that is)

That's pretty much it, but it's not another country's independence day - not that it makes it any better, it's a weird story - Mexico sorta quit paying its bills. France said no way beaners pay whats due and when Mexico wouldn't, France invaded to collect. At a battle in some town called Puebla the Mexican army won a victory on this day (although a short while later they were completely defeated - by the French no less). So Mexico made a celebration out of the day and like stated above we in the states don't need much in the way of reasons to party so we latched on like a bum to a bottle of Thunderbird.

And there you have it: a little scarce but factual recount of what the day is celebrated for.

Happy to help, now excuse while I mix another margarita. :beer;

You mean the Canadians don't know how to drink beer?

I'd rather party with my brothers to the north:D

who cares? americans celebrate other holidays based on various cultural and religious beliefs, so why all the concern about this one? if you look into the origins of almost any holiday, you'll find some group of people that disapprove of it based upon whatever reason is convenient for them at that particular time. and bubba, since you grew up here, you should know that most of the hispanic population in this area are celebrating the pride they have in their heritage and nothing against the United States.

We are inundated with American culture on every 4th of July. I don't complain. Just another reason to drink a few and wish we had the day off like my US friends.
It's my wife's birthday today so I don't give a rat's a$$ about sink hole de mayo of whatever it is.

Now from this I get the feeling that you think I don't approve of the holiday when in fact I don't mind it on way or another. In fact I think every country should be proud of its day of independence. The point I was trying to make is why do we as americans celebrate mexico's? And yes I have tons of latin friends. Grew up playing soccer in the latin soccer league in IF.

And Phatty, where to start , MR I HAVE A GOVERMENT JOB AND SURF SNOWEST MOST OF THE DAY! haha.;) Looking like I might be switching to bubba860 this fall ;)
