A little climbing, and crash!

This was on 3/9/12, hero snow, but still fun!

textbook terrain trap your buddy was sitting in when you took off on the second climb, two guys on the hill, two more in the runout on the first climb (both in first video)... WTF?? Still persistant weakness in the snowpack no matter what the top feels like. This is a prime example of why we still have multiple burials all the time.

I know I sound like your mother, but you dont want to know what your buddies mother will sound like when you tell her that "he was just sitting at the bottom watching when I saw the fracture in front of me..."

Bhah, blah, blah. Ya know, sorry, but I get sick of people posting something and then someone posting in about avalanche...sorry. Didn't ask your opinion about the avalanche conditions! :face-icon-small-con

Sled is fine, knocked the windshield off.

I guess he did comment on the snowpack in his response. He also commented on the fact there were people in the run out zone, more than one person on the hill at the same time, blah, blah, blah, as you put it. Just an indicator of unwise choices being made that don't help you in case something bad happens. If you are going to climb, by all means let er rip. Maybe just do it so you stack the deck in your favor a little. Sometimes all it takes is 30 seconds to just do something slightly different to help you out. He might just be frustrated with reading about a burial every other day, I know I am.

Perhaps, but I am a little frustrated as it seems everytime someone gets on here and sees something they perceive as dangerous, getting to the point if you side hill people are being called idiots.
haven't checked, but pretty sure there are a lot more skiers out there that get killed than sledders, and I just don't see them banging on each other.

Not trying to be arrogant here, and I understand, but most of the time people that make these comments have no idea what the snowpack is or avy conditions were. Just tired of trying to have fun and some joe has to chime in, if I want your opinion, I'll ask for it. Sorry, jsut don't need to turn this into avy discussion, there is a category for that.

I definitely know what you are saying. That does happen a lot on here. Been really bad this year, probably because there have been so many incidents. The truth of the matter is that sledding is inherently dangerous, and bad stuff can happen sometimes no matter how careful you are. If no one ever took any risks, the sled vid business would be non existent. No one wants to watch people carving in meadows all day, unless you are a Ski-Doo exec.:face-icon-small-win

I was going to mention the vids, everyone thinks it is so awesome when 2-4 sledders go ripping up what is what I would consider really bad avy terrain, on the same face, of some seperate chutes at the top.

I'm carefully as I can be without taking the fun out of it. Some are willing to take more risks than others, it's that simple. To each his own.

If you dont want those kind of responses dont post video of climbing two at a time with more guys in a terrain trap at the bottom. Doesnt really matter what the snowpack is like.

If you post up videos on a forum you are asking for opinions.

Oh, and I'm not just some "Joe", I am one of those volunteers who will get the call to come in and pick up the pieces when guys like you do trigger one.

^^ no chit! when they do a "fireworks" climb in Thunderstruck videos its the coolest **** since sliced bread...if someone in a slednecks video sidehills 2 miles across an open face in 4 feet of fresh that fell the night before...its the coolest **** since sliced bread and perfectly acceptable...but as soon as the average joe posts something on here just for some entertainment they get dogged right off the bat. we are back country snowmobilers...everyone knows the risks...and we accept that as soon as we leave the parking lot...wether your just on a trail or hill climbing, everyone is exposed to a certain amount of avvy danger. what it all boils down to is...knowing the snow conditions and using YOUR HEAD. rant over

thanks for posting the vids. i havnt been up to Skyland in a few years, its nice to see it on here! i hope i can get up there this year...i miss that place!
