A fatal avalanche in Salida

I am very sorry to hear this news. My prayers go out to the friends and family.

We have had many close calls here in Utah this year and lost at least one rider. It is a hard ting to accept.

Condolences to the families and friends left behind and also to those who helped dig him out. I've been there and it sucks!

WOW, I just read on 9news.com that the avalanche was approximately 1 mile across? Is that true? If so, that's a HUGE AVY.

Thoughts and prayers to family and friends. :brokenheart: This has been a horrible week-end! :face-icon-small-sad :brokenheart:

Its been a bad weekend. No matter how close or how far from home, it always sucks to hear about things like this. RIP!

Know the snow.......

I've known Vern for about 30 years, he was a long time family friend and a stand-up guy. He was very active in Search & Rescue and among many other things, he helped to make sure our trails were in good shape and always had a smile to share. Vern was the first person I seen after a long night in the woods a few years ago. Vern was about as experienced as you can get when it comes to back country knowledge for he has dedicated countless hours to training and has been on the rescue side of these situations many times himself. He was someone I looked up to and will be very much missed. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to his wonderful family and his many friends. I am fortunate in that my last memory of Vern was him smiling big and waving to me from the groomer as he drove by. To the ones that dug him out and everyone that was there to bring him out God Bless You for I can't imagine how difficult that was and still is for I know how close everyone was to Vern.

Please be very careful out there. The snow is extremely unstable right now and is saturated with recent rain and wet heavy snow. Yesterday I watched flat areas around me literally sink 3-4 inches as I was riding. My point is that we are all susceptable, you can never be too careful and never let your guard down.

Once again, everyone please be very careful and God Bless!

Warren

Thoughts and prayers to family and friends. I got the news from a friend that knew him very well and he just couldn't believe that this happened. Very sad.
