99 mm700 primary clutch torque spec?

anybody know what i am supposed to torque the bolt in the primary to? was looking on TY and it said for general torque, 14mm bolt is around 61 ft lbs. is that close? i know the summit i am working on it 75.

shyt. now you guys tell me. i guess its my own fault for not asking sooner.

i don't have the sled anymore or else i would correct it. i delivered it to my cousin in billings this weekend. what i did was torque to 50 lbs and then to 65. i left it there at 65 ft lbs. do you think that will be ok? or should i bring a torque wrench when i meet up with him in january?

I'd re-do it. I always torque them on just like Snowdad posted. The 85lbs is needed to seat the clutch on the tapered shaft, the the bolt needs to be backed off and torqued to 43 lbs so it doesn't break in there.

I don't think that 65#s will break the bolt, but I do think you should re do it to make sure it is seated properly. If the bolt stretches a little and the clutch is not firmly seated it could turn on the pto.

just call him up and have him retorque it. its a fairly important procedure. anyone can do it with a clicker wrench. better safe than sorry. or dont ride it till its correct. tkaes out alot of valuable(expensive) parts.

factory spec is, and always has been 85ft lb initial torque, loosen bolt and retighten to 43 ft lbs.

That is what my Factory Service Manual states.

700MAXTRIP: Not sure where you got your info from but I am supprised you have not spun the clutch at 47 ft lbs. I have seen them spin at 60 to 65 ft lbs.

Are you sure you did not miss understand the 47 ft lbs to be after the initial torque of 85 ft lbs the loosening the bolt then retighten to 47 ft lbs?
