This is an extra sled for me. Took a freind sledding for his first time yesterday and the rear suspension collapsed. It was fully compressed and when we picked the rear up it would not even extend 1/2 an inch. So I gave him my sled and I rode the X. After about 3 miles on a trail it was fully extended and functional again. This hapened 4 times throughout the day. ( I was not going back to the truck and loading up and going home.) This sled only gets ridden about 4 times per year and has never done this before. It has 2800 miles on it and it gets the suspension greased every fall with a low temp grease. What could have caused this? It is now in the back of the truck and the skid is in it's normal position.
 
It's likely the sled was just not sitting on a flat surface. If you throw even a small bump under the front part of the rear suspension it will collapse in the rear. Totally normal for any sled.
 
Any other ideas? I did notice this afternoon with it all melted down that the rear spring adjusters were all the way in the what I call the neutral position. Not position 1, 2 or 3. No broken springs or bent shocks to be seen. Front shock is in position 4 and limiter strap has a little slack. Has anyone ever seen those rear spring adjusters move on their own?
 
seen a rear suspension bottom out and stick like you said before on my buddy's sled, dude at the shop told him most likely the rear shock was shot and had some water in it that was frozen or freezing causing it to stick in the collapsed position.might be same with yours,not sure about them adjusting on their own....:beer;

I'd be leaning toward this scenario, broken torsion spring maybe? allowing the adjuster to rotate when the load is just right?
 
Ive had this happen 3 different times on 3 different sleds. Rear shock each time. Temperature can make a difference and even have the shock working good again, for awhile.. My wifes 600 did this a couple times, each time it seemed to "fix itself". Ended up ruining a couple rides. It was a bad shock.
