99 670 bogging when warm, won't move! HELP!?

I have a 99 Summit X 670 and it seems fine when its starting out and warming up. Went for a ride today and it was fine for the first 10-15 mins, then I stopped for a min letting the sled idle and went to go and it sounded completely different and didn't want to go. Wether it was full throttle or just a tad it would rev up a little and bog down, sometimes it would jump and go a few feet then stop and go back to idle. (No its not the 3000RPM teather limiter). Not sure whats the matter, I personally think its my jets cuz it kina sounds like its not getting fuel or something, but some people say it could be some solenoid or the clutches???:( If it matter's im running old unleaded fuel from last year and trying to burn it off before adding premo... PLEASE HELP!:mad:

Try this first install new plugs with the proper gap and new plug caps wont hurt either. 98 99 summit x had a weak ignition system if the gap was to far apart the sled would run but it wouldnt move hardley at all. Some guys would get close to a radio tower are power line and the sled would run weird. This is a true story no B.S. Try that first and get that crappy fuel out of the tank.

Does the sled run fine when its cold ?

When I start it up it takes a few primer pumps and two pulls and its fired up. Its weird that it would be fine for 10-15 mins then I stop and it starts to growl and bog at me... Im running what I allways do (BR9ES right outa the box, I never gap them, dealer says there fine). I may take it to our sled machanic in town cuz he's real good with em, but i'd rather not spend the $$$. I could put new plugs in but I have new ones in already (this year, mabey 5-10 miles on em). Whats the gap sappose to be??? Thanks AK.

I think it was .018, try the two things I suggested and remove the fuel along with the fuel that is in the carbs. Ignition modules are known to fail also and a bad stator will give the same syptoms your having but try the simple things first.

Well, There is nothing but powder and I don't have one of the filters that go by the gauges on the hood that keeps the snow out, so it goes straight to the one on the intake and it gets some snow in the intake chamber box thing... Every time I opened the hood it would be full of snow and I had to take the little filter off and smack it around... It got covered every time I hit some pow. Didn't seem to be a problem last yer, Lost the big hood filter when it rolled last year and havn't used one since... Mabey I should get one... Hmmmm. You guys are helpfull...

I would geuss the stator or the CDI box. Mine did the exact same thing & it ended up being the stator.

sounds like your carbs are freezing. My 670 would always freeze if i followed to close on cold mornings.i would put spare gloves on top of carbs to trap heat from motor seamed to help.

Good thought mike. It has been in the -'s and was about 8-10F when riding. I personally think the snow on the intake melted and got sucked into the carbs and froze... Do I have to take the carbs off to fix this? Thanks.

put all the pre fillter foams back on the air box.If you have hood screens keep them closed when riding in super fine snow.If no sreens tape some of the hood holes to trap some heat in.The frost will melt inside the carbs if you let it idle for a bit(if it will).

I think the chokes fine, I always prime it 3-4 times and it starts 2nd or 3rd pull. I was gonna take it to the town mechanic but mabey I should try to trap some heat in the engine compartement and melt the ice/water in the carbs? Like I said, it idles fine but it when its about to move it bogs out and won't.

there is no choke on your sled its a primer so that you dont need to worry about. sounds like water in your gas or maybe a spark plug. just cause there new dont mean it didnt foul one already. the 670 with the rotary valve can slowly let oil in the crank case when they are stored for the summer and that will foul a plug real fast on the first ride of the season if you have one of the leaky ones. good luck
