98 Summit 500 won't hit higher rpm's

I have a Summit 500 that I took out today and it didn't run too hot. Runs okay up to 6000 rpm, but that is the max it will go and it has absolutely no power to pull hills. Then when you stop it won't idle unless you keep on the throttle a little. Also floods easily....happened twice today. I also noticed that it burns about twice as much fuel as my 99 Summit 670. Any ideas???

was it your first ride of the season ? did it run good earlier this season?
it sounds like if it is your frist ride i would think the carbs need cleaned and you might have a needle and seat that are basd or possibley a float that is sinking. how is your belt deflection does it have a lot of belt deflection if so you might need the clutches cleaned and possibly rebuilt. i would also check the compresion becuase if the engine had a problem it might have low compresion on one cylinder. well start there and let us know .
have a great day dan

No, it's about the third ride of the season, but it has done it every time out. After the first time, I had Maverik in Laramie clean the clutch (which they said it needed). After the second ride I took and cleaned the RAVE valves. Now I'm on to the next thing.... Didn't really want to take the carb's off (looks intimidating), but it looks like that is what I need to do.

Choke stuck?

DPM/HAC plugged?

ALWAYS pull round slide carbs off every yr to clean, or you will likely be pulling them off to replace pistons instead. For whatever reason - they like to gunk up. The flat slides seldom ever show signs of gunking. I have no clue what the diff is. ???
