98 dies when hot??

My brother in law has an 98 700 that will start and run fine until it gets warmed up. Then will shut off and wont re start until completely cooled down. Anyone experience this problem. Any helpful hints are appreciated.

We did add coolant before we headed out to ride. About a half gallon. And i also noticed the wire to the coolant temp senor in the head was broken. Both issues were addressed before it started to die. Is there a sensor on the older engine's that shut it down when it gets too hot? It doesn't seem to be over heating though.

sound like a stator problem. when it heats up it breaks the circuit. test your stator with an ohm meter when cold. then run it until it quits and then test it again. A bad cdi box will do the same thing. But the stator problem is more common.

One could try unhooking the wire connected to the coolant temp sensor on the cylinder head when it dies to see if it makes a difference.....

the temp sensor does not effect the way it runs in 98, you either have a stator or the cdi is going. I have seen both. I have both used parts pm me if interested

Thank for all the input. Brother in law is gonna have it looked at.
RMKboxer i sent you a pm.
