Took my oldest boy for a ride around the side lot late this afternoon before dark, noticed an issue with my headlights. With my handwarmers on, "Brake", "Low Oil", and "Acc" indicator lights light on speedo/tach. Headlights switch from hi to lo beam with no problems. When I apply the brakes headlights go dim, with the handwarmers on the light almost goes out completely. With them off it will go dim but not as bad.
Previously the indicator lights mentioned would come on only when I applied the brake. I do have a spot on the wiring harness where the wires come down the hood from the gauges where it bends at the corner of the belly pan before going under the motor. The wires contacted one of the pipes and melted the outer covering and exposed the wires. I have it taped up for now, I have a replacement engine harness that I bought off ebay a while back, just haven't got around to putting it in.
I'm thinking the voltage regulator is going bad from other posts I've read on here and elsewhere. I've also read on newer Polaris twins to switch to an Arctic Cat regulator with a higher capacity? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I know electrical issues can be real gremlins to track down. Thanks!
