95 phazer main jet cleaning

Just bought this sled and need to clean\check mains. Is there enough room to slide carb boots back and wiggle the carb assembly out to get to main jets. There are cables that might not allow me to turn the assembly to remove float bowl or do I need to remove the air box first. If I need to remove the air box what would be the correct procedure. Engine has a mid range bog which can be cured by fethering the throttle until you get above the bog.

I have big hands and the engine compartment is tight.

Thanks for any information, Bill

Start with adjusting the fuel mixture screws on the top of each carb, 1.5 turns out is a good starting point.
The best way I've found to get the carbs out is to remove the driven (secondary) clutch, remove the boost bottle from the intake manifolds, remove the upper plastic cylinder shroud (cover).
Just in front of the fuel door there is a rectangle cover, pop that out and under it is 2 bolts that hold the air box in place. removing those bolts will let the air box move back about 1''.
Now the carbs can be pushed back enough to get them out of the intake manifolds, the fuel lines will need removed to get the carbs out also.
No need to disconnect any cables.
The 17mm hex bolt on the bottom of the carbs is the main jet holder, be careful removing the bowl because there are 2 black plugs that can fall out. One plug goes in the center hole, the other goes over the hole that the slow jet is in.
The fuel is supplied to the slow jet via a small hole between the main jet passage and the slow jet passage, if that hole is plugged or restricted it won't get fuel to the slow speed jet. If the black plug isn't put in the slow jet passage it will run extremely rich at idle.

Hope this helps.

In trying to get my new to me phazers running over the last month I have gotten pretty proficient at removing the carbs. I never have removed the clutch and dont have to remove or even loosen the air box. I find that there is more than enough room by just removing the boost bottle and loosening the two clamps to the boots that hold the boost bottle. I completely remove the clamps that hold the carbs to the boots that attach to the air box. The boots that go the the air box are flexible enough. I have removed and installed the carbs this way probably 10-12 times on both phazers.
