91 Octane Ethanol and fuel additive

Anyone ever use Helix 5 in 1 fuel additive? Supposed to dissipate water in Ethanol Fuel, if this is used would you switch off the Ethanol control?

No, water is not the main issue with ethanol fuel. It's the fact that it has less btu so you need more volume to make the same air/fuel ratio as gasoline.

Ok, thanks, this additive is supposed to boost octane also, since i have no easy access to non ethanol fuel this may be the best i can do.

I would suggest that you do your own research, but I have found Yamaha Fuel Med for the ethanol gas to work very well. I also use Torco Accelerator (octane booster). Best combination that I have found. Won't have to worry about that this year as I now have access to 91 non ethanol. Good luck

Check your cocktail... alcohol and water mix very well together. You do not need, or want, yet another additive. Octane boosters do not work. Ethanol fuel in your sled will not hurt it. We have been stuck with ethanol for 20 years and I have never seen a rash of failures.

Just gas and go.

Alcohol and oil don't mix well either. Check your oil as some are not compatible with alcohol.

Are you referring to my post? If so, have you seen the research, testing, etc on the Torco Accelerator? It has been a few years, but I found significant data on this product that it does raise the octane level, all from independent labs. We ran it in a Yamaha Apex with an Impulse turbo, using 91 octane with Torco. Did this for 3 years and never had an issue. Also ran race fuel at times.

If you're worried about octane then Torco IS the answer. The only thing that worked in my modded FST. I tried every single product I could get my hands on. I ordered the 32oz cans and brought them with on the trail.

So displacing pure gasoline (any octane) with 10% of this corn stuff is no worry? Hmm, what about when the Gov gets to jump it to 15% or 20%?

Ethanol is not good. We are getting by using it though.

You will be lucky if it's corn stuff, that is the higher quality ethanol. They use majority wheat up here for ethanol.

I never had issues with octane running premium E10 in my mod M1000 when I rode in CO (Gypsum actually) because the octane requirement is less at altitude.
If you're running a turbo disregard unless it's a pump gas setup.
That said, the fuel depot on Hwy 6 sells ethanol free as I recall and another place in Silt.
I've never had issues running ethanol gas and my only concern is letting ethanol sit for a long time and having it degrade rubber fuel system parts.

The fuel depot? Where is this place?

I think AZ800 is referring to is Colletts on Hwy 6 next to Napa, they have 87 octane non ethanol gas, their 91 octane has ethanol, there are no others in Eagle or Gypsum that i know of selling any non ethanol fuel. I appreciate all the input from everyone, just getting familiar with my new 2015 Pro and hope to not blow it up anytime soon, my initial question related to the control being switched from "Ethanol" to "Non Ethanol" if i used an additive, the dealer where i bought my sled suggested Helix additive but did not elaborate on switching the control if i add it to my fuel.

I plan on taking non-ethanol fuel in cans with me to fill up at the cabin but in the event I need to fill up in a pinch and only ethanol containing fuel at a station I will switch my mode until I can fill my tank full of non-ethanol. If i do end up using ethanol I will likely siphon it out and into my truck at the conclusion of the trip and refill completely with non-ethanol for the start of the next one. I would rather sacrifice some performance and be safe rather than risk the motor

If you're using ethanol fuel you want it in the ethanol mode no matter what additives you put in it. The ethanol mode adds fuel to correct for a lean condition that ethanol creates.

I ran my '11 and '13 with ethanol fuel (91) until I switched the '13 to 88 non ethanol. I used the non-ethanol plug/setting with ethanol fuel just fine. Never had detonation. Keep in mind I ride above 9/10k, usually above 11k.

Even though I try to run eth free I've run 92 ethanol even at lower altitude under 5k ft in my pro with no problem. In AK 90 octane no eth is it for premium no problem there either. Never seen a DET light either.
Yes I was talking about Colletts on hwy 6. Didn't know they only had 87 ethanol free.
