900KK in REV CHASSIS

Modsledr has an 1150 (based off KK 900) in a Rev Chassis and it flat out rocks. Didn't do the work himself, bought it this way... so can't answer "is it worth it" but can say it turned out fannnnnnnnnnnnntastic! :D

THe key is the engine plate and getting the alignment correct. Since the Rev uses side bolted motor mounts, there is ALWAYS tension on the mounts. Need to find a way to support the weight and torque of the engine. I'm still tweaking the torque arms and push arms to keep the engine stable.

Also, need to add support for the bulkhead around the primary clutch (see pic above). We replaced the stock tunnel/bulkhead support plate w/1/8" for flex support. Also added a support bar above the primary clutch to tie everything together.

Put the 440 engine brace under the motor.

^ What he said ^

I started out with a 440 and I've had ZERO issues with alignment, flexing or anything of the sort. I set mine up to run the 8DN Yamaha belt and I'm still on the original.

Are you also running the motor mounts out of the race sled with the aluminum cross shafts? If not, that's your biggest problem. There shouldn't be any need for front to rear cross bracing with the way the Rev is designed. (mid part of the pyramid anyway, the nuns are a different story...)

I want my new 973 [ 1000 Cat pistons in an 900 ] in an XP.

Owen

I don't think I would. I've had a couple real good looks at those and I'm thinking they aren't going to last with that kind of weight in them. I know one guy on the 4m here that is selling his because he figures there won't be anything left with the way he rides.

Any chance one of you guys has the part numbers for the 440 Engine Brace and the Race Sled Motor Mounts?

Thanks,

RMI Drive

Direct drive? Why is the secondary so low?

Yes...RMI Drive. Would like to have it mounted about 2" higher, but combination of track clearance and carb clearance meant a complete re-mount (already installed when I bought it). The upside is the angle of attack is almost flat!! :D

Beels,

Did you use the stock 440 engine plate and modify it for the 900 Cat cases?

Unfortunately for me, the person I bought the sled from had a custom engine plate made, so I'll have to re-do that in order to use the cross brace and motor mounts.

thanks again,

Was the original builder's name John and the sled featured in one of the Mod-Stock mags?

I looked at the pics again and that sled sure looks familiar. If so, he gave me quite a few pointers when I built mine. I had Brad Wursten build my mount plate, so it'll be real similar to that one. I built mine on my last 440 chassis I had so it had all the bracing already in it. The plate sits a touch higher than the original did, so I glued some rubber belting on the bottom of the plate so the bottom brace was functional. With the 440 engine mount bushings and cross tubes, it is REAL solid in there.

Yes, I bought this sled from John. Unfortunately when he built it, the 440 wasn't out yet so he used the stock Rev motor mounts.

Thats good to know about the bracing...I'm going to get the support brace and see if I can add it. My mount plate wont work with the 440 motor mounts/cross bars. The stock Rev motor mounts support the engine with the mount bolts inserted horizontal. This puts constant vertical stress on the motor mounts and they fail. However, I think the support brace will help...should take some of the stress off the motor mounts.

Thanks again,

If I was in your shoes, here's what I'd do.

Get a hold of Brad Wursten (1200PSI on the old forum, not sure on this one) and get him to build you a new billet mount plate that has the same bottom dimensions as the stock 440 motor plate, and the step built in on top for the difference in height on the bottom mount recesses on the Cat bottom end (they aren't flush, some guys have milled the bottom of the case flat, I had the step built into the plate. Not sure how yours is done) Check how much additional height you need built into the plate. Brad has done a few of these and knows what's up. Use the OEM 440 mount pieces and you're set.... The only problem I had with mine is the holes for the mounts on the side of the plate weren't machined out enough and I couldn't get them in. Took it to a machinist who took .030" out of them and they worked great.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but thought I might comment. When we built the sled we tried the mounting kit that CrankShop offered at the time for their 1140. It looked to me to be similar to the 440 shown above. We couldn't get anything to line up and would have had to add material, shims, spacers and drill holes until the thing looked like swiss cheese. I took that mount to Brad and what you have is what he built. (that was the first one he did-probably getting better) I will dig around in my junk pile and try to find the old crankshop plate and see if it used the cross tubes and a support.
P.S. Glad to see you are still riding the REV. I hated to sell it, but sometimes you have no choice.
