900 king cat ?'s

A friend of mine is looking at an 05 900 king cat with 700 miles all stock. What types of problems did these have and what should he be aware of when looking at this. I have always been a polaris guy and have friends that ride m-series sleds but no king cats. I know the m-7's are bulletproof, so any insight on the 900 would be great.

Thanks

Tough sled, great engine, the only thing they did bad was get snow chocked when side hilling and banking to the right. Tunnel dump or front dump can took care of that.

Check drive shaft bearings,, skid rails for cracks ,, bulk head around engine for cracks if he buys it MAKE SURE to pull the carbs and check the jets for the elevation he will ride I don't care what the previous owner says about it. Check needle clip position as well why take any chances.. pull the plugs and use a fiber optic light to look at the pistons. If your friend is not to knowledgeable about sleds take some one who is . With that low of miles if they are true with a little work (chassis adjustment wise ) these can be very good sleds.

Thanks for the responses, he is new to sledding and just wants a dependable sled and does not want to spend a bunch of money. I tried to talk him into an m-7 but he wants to stay around the $3000 dollar mark, hard to find a decent m-7 for that at least one that is not trashed.

Well,, start out with one of the rear suspension lifts, or move up to an M series skid. The biggest complaint by riders is how the rear end doesn't work. The fix is to find a good shock tuner and take the time to have the shocks revalved. Moving forward get an after market A arm/spindle set I think timber sled still builds them. I think spindle turns, instead of a spindle housing and a spindle inside. (less weight) Then the next is to either revalve the shocks or upgrade to modified float 2s . The main thing is to ask, there are a lot of guys here who know more than I do . Get the 1M, M series hood from MT. Fit hoods and next move the steering post forward. I would like to move the steering post over the engine hope to do that. Get a trail tank from a sno-pro racer it's more forward. Have an idea to get a moto-cross seat and sub frame to build a seat mount this will put you further forward. You will also have to modify the foot well area as well to move your feet forward. Think that's all.... Oh ya,, go with the front dump silencer like mentioned above this will keep the engine bog down when you roll the sled over on the right side.

Like they all said!
Was the 900 2005 King EFI? I have 2004 MC's 900cc and are EFI but don't remeber which of Kings had EFI.
Raise handle bars, front dump, ride hard! Excellent sleds. Engine is strong, very strong.
Some subtle handling differencebewteen King and Mountain Cat (see discussions by Rixter) and can make changes to the King.
I still like mine but getting harder to go back to from my 2011 M8 :) ...but I still have not sold them!

thanks KMMAC ive been working on my new ride forwaed steering, new seat ,cut out running boards, trimming tunnel, new air intake now all i need is snow, i livein oregon and ride mt. bachlor, and we are having the driest december on record, at least its giving me time to work on my sled ,thanks for your feed back

Will be great with only stock! But will bog when on it's right side in deep snow so front dump or some of other mods for this problem you can read about on this site.

Horrible right side bog, worst thing. Cheap way to help is a large shield in front of the exhaust outlet. Helps, but not solves. Lots of great looking modded Kings in the "best looking 1M" thread, including my old one. LOTS of time modding, but I still like it better than my M1000, although I hope to have gotten the issues I have with my M fixed for this year.

he will loove it, like previously mentioned do the exhaust dump and an atacc system from holtzman and it will run like a charm. i have one with twin pipes thats a 2003 with a couple other mods and i still outclimb all the new sleds 800 and smaller (the 1000s can hang with me). BE SURE TO LOOK FOR THE DRIVE BEARING and also that theres no cracked running boards (a common problem) other than that they are great sleds, fun to jump and boondock too. for added stability and less ski lift he can install a sled junkys drop bracket too
