900 coolant leak so confused HELP!

Just recently did a full rebuild on my 9, top end, bottom end, clutches, you name it. I put it all back together and took it out for its first break in ride. Ran like a top except for the coolant leak. The system was all bled properly prior to riding. It was puking out coolant. I also had done the rad delete, so I first off checked all my hoses going to and from the bottle. All were well, the coolant bottle is also brand new. The water pump seems dry I have the motor tilted forward to see clearly behind it. I found coolant buildup where the oil line from the bottle leads down between the two cylinders into the crank. So I check the oil line for any coolant runoff from another spot and NOTHING! Please help, I am so confused and I'm missing out on a great day of riding!

I saw 94fordguy youtube video "mysterious coolant leak" and I feel that's EXACTLY what is happening so if anybody could check that out and maybe give some insight that'd be greatly appreciated thanks guys.

I would check the thermostat if it's the old style as some would fall apart. they have better ones now. something to check. really need more info. is it blowing out the overflow? if so could be thermostat. also check to make sure that hose going into the water pump is on good all the way down? I'm sure you check that. ?

I had a similar issue and it was coming from my head bolts. They ended up being stripped from being torque/removed/torque/removed..ect ect..hope that's not your issue cause its pretty much the WORST thing you can have. not an easy fix.

keep checking man, if you can pressurize the system manually, it will be easy. otherwise, just let it idle and keep checking...

check your plugs for white milky or fresh coolant.

And your sure your rad delete hoses follow the correct routing. Check stickies up on forum first page..?

If you're seeing coolant on the oil line you are probably leaking from the top of the motor... bad o-ring under the head or a stripped bolt.

My particular problem turned out to be a bad water pump shaft seal and I had to take it in to be replaced... no coolant loss visible since then I'm glad to say!

You might want to checkthe hose that goes to your water pump. It is a crappy connection with a crappy clamp. If you haven't already switch it out to a good old hose clamp that screws tight. It might have nothing to do with your leak but thats where I was having mine after engine work.:face-icon-small-win

afther i had my engine out swapping pistons and some other stuff the thing had a coolant leak as well, an man did i look for ages for the damn thing, no leaks when running at first but then it suddenly started dripping water from underneath, what it turned out to be was when the water got hot the hoses started to flex and the water started leaking from the hose coming off the waterpump. so even if you can pressureise the system (compressed air + towel + buddy =gold here) make sure you heat the water up :face-icon-small-win

Hi im having a leak coming from the waterpump hose on my SB and same here that i have to get the coolant warmed up to see the leak, guess i have to replace that hose right? so im wondering do i have to get the engine out or is it possible to change it without engine removal

thanks

I recently helped a buddy change his hose on a 06 900. You CAN pull it off with motor in. We pulled the gas tank and cowling off to get at it better. A little tricky but doable.

I have removed this hose in the past without removing the engine, it is kind of a pain especially if you have large hands, but with patience and the right tools it can be done. if i were you i would check twice if the hose and clap are fully seated, before replacing. If you decide to take it of, inspect it for cracks, just to make sure it is the hose and not a seal or anything, but again, check if the hose and clamps are securely attached. :face-icon-small-win
