900 cat recoil question

I keep hearing about the M1000 recoils fit on the 900 cat. I hear that it has a gear reduction to help with cold starts. Has anyone put one on, and how does it work? Does anyone know where I can buy one at a decent price? Thanks John

The M1000 recoil doesn't bolt right up.... you need an adapter plate. Idcatman makes them, I believe.

900 recoil

me 2, ive found a kit for $365, could i buy just the adapter and spacer seperate from some one, ican get new cat parts for cost so i dont need "there" recoil. and is it a stock 1000 recoil

Starter

The M1000 starter makes the 900 engine pull over easier because it has a larger diameter rope spool. No gear reduction or other magic. I sell an adapter plate with all the necessary bolts and a spacer for the starter cup for $70 US shipped to the lower 48. I also have a couple good used M1000 starters for $110 each.

That's the way I'd go..........

I made my own but IDcatman's cheaper. I feel like a fool but that was a long time ago.

I have to come out West to pull mine.

Cold at low altitude it's a bear. The stock recoil WILL not work.
A 975 with high comp.

No I don't but feel free to send a PM to me or my son Idcatman3. I don't do enough business to have a web site. I make these adapters on my mill in my garage/shop. We can get you pictures or Idcatman3 has a post about them in the new classified section under engine parts. It is the third from the last ( or first in order of when listed ) on the fourth page. The latest version looks a little different, we have removed more material that isn't necessary. Lighter weight, saves a whole couple grams, but it seems to be what guys want. I have to charge a little more because of the extra time involved.

I got the following PM from hiflight but somehow I wasn't able to reply.

I was interested in your post about the adapter plates you mfg. I have a 2003 Mtn.cat 800 efi. I'am in my mid 60's and on cold days, I just about pull my arm off attempting to start a cold motor. Will your adapter plate help me with my starting problem ? thanks in advance.

Yes it should make your engine pull over easier, more leverage from the larger rope spool. You will need the new M8 or M1000 starter as well as the adapter plate/ring. I can fix you up with both. Maybe try an email next time jkned@ida.net.
