87 Phazer choke disconnect?

How do I disconnect the choke cable from the carbs? I need to remove and clean the carbs. This is on an 87 Phazer.

I also will need to completely flush the fuel system. The sled sat for 2 years (only started twice during this time) and the carbs are full of funk. I am assuming I need to clean the tank and all fuel lines to make it run properly.

Are there any tips / tricks to doing this?

Thanks!:beer;

the choke plungers are threaded. should be a 12mm end wrench. there is a rubber cap over it that the cable slides through. carefull, there is a spring in there that may fly out and disappear, as well as the plunger. try to pull it out as an assembly and you will see how the cable comes off by depressing the spring. hopefully yours are not fully seized in there.

Thanks!

I removed the brass fitting (yep, 12 mm) and saw the spring, but the spring did not come out easily so I assumed it was not supposed to come out.... Are you saying there is something inside the carb body in addition to the spring?? or is it just the spring that has to come out?

the plunger is still in there, attached to the cable, at the end of the spring. thats the part i was referring to about being seized in, it may come out with a few good tugs, or your in for some serious fighting. dont ruin the carb body. if it fights you, unhook the flipper from the cowl to free the carbs and get them soaking. its going to have to come out so your carbs and choke will operate properly.

if your referring to the tank, take it off and swish a gallon of fuel around in and dump it out of the cap, probably not as bad as you think. there is a filter in the tank as well, but they rarely need service. if you dont want to pull the tank, put some fuel in it and shake the sled and let it gravity feed out the fuel line.
